Obsidian Teams Up With Paradox For Pillars Of Eternity
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Obsidian Entertainment has revealed a new status update for its upcoming Kickstarter funded Pillars of Eternity RPG. In addition to detailed information about the Wizard and Druid classes the update also reveals that Obsidian has partnered with Paradox Interactive to market and distribute the game.

Wizards are researchers and experimenters. Like animancers, their understanding of the spirit world and soul energy is technical and scientific. For this reasons, wizards have a skill focus in both Lore and Mechanics. Also like animancers, wizards rely on special tools to achieve their effects. Specifically, wizards use grimoires, arcane books made with rare materials that can absorb and temporarily hold fragments of ambient soul energy. Unlike priests and druids, wizards do not personally shape the magic that is released. Instead, their grimoires' spell pages do most of the work. The wizard's specialty is in understanding how to help the magic flow in and out of the grimoire without going haywire. As wizards continue to research, more spells are created every year. Some spells remain in the private collections of individual wizards while others see widespread distribution and can be found in grimoires all over the known world.

In game terms, all wizards start with a single grimoire. Even as big as they are, grimoires can only hold a set number of spells from each level. Wizards have the potential to access many more spells than priests or druids, but that potential is restricted by what a grimoire can hold. As a result, experienced wizards carry multiple grimoires with subsets of spells to handle different situations. Grimoires can be switched during combat, but there is an opportunity cost to doing so -- the new grimoire needs to attune itself to the wizard for several seconds before its spells can be used. Outside of combat, wizards can outfit their grimoires with any spells that they have learned. If they come across a spell in an enemy's grimoire, they can choose to learn that spell for the cost (in copper pieces) required to research it.

As a result of their varied studies, wizards have access to both "meat and potatoes" spells and more eccentric effects. They excel at area attacks, but also have a healthy number of spells for personal defense and more than a few oddballs in the mix. Occasionally, wizards become known for a particular spell or family of spells that they've invented and their names are inexorably linked with their contributions to magical research.

Diablo III: Reaper Of Souls Crusader Details Revealed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has released new articles showcasing features from the upcoming Diablo III: Reaper of Souls expansion for the popular action RPG. The articles offer a look at the design of the new Crusader class and answers to fan questions about the class.

Scheduled to launch on March 25 the game will challenge players to defeat Malthael, the fallen Archangel of Wisdom, who seeks to seize control of the Black Soulstone. The new expansion will also offer a new hero: The Crusader, a new level 70 experience cap, new spells and abilities for existing classes, greater emphasis on randomized environments, a reworked Paragon progression, as well as two new game modes: Loot Runs and Nephalem Trials.

What type of wapons are best to use with him?

Answer: Flails are his class weapon, and those have good solid ratings across the board, so we'd recommend those, but it can depend!  If you want to be able to spam as many Blessed Hammers on screen as possible, you may want a super-fast Dagger. Or, if you want Shield Bash to hit really heavily, you could try to find a really slow 2-Handed Mace. The Crusader is a Medieval Knight who is heavily trained in the art of war, so he can wield almost any weapon he finds.

Wondering how the Crusader will fare using the 2h weapon in 1h passive

Answer: To be clear, the Heavenly Strength passive on the Crusader allows him to wield a 2-Handed Weapon and Shield, not two 2-Handed Weapons. We felt that we had to allow this ability for a few reasons. First, the Shield is a defining characteristic of the Crusader, and many of his skills actually require a shield to be used. If Crusaders were forced to choose between those skills or 2-Handed Weapons, that would just feel crappy. Secondly, as the Crusader cannot Dual-Wield 1 handed weapons, this gives him a unique edge and makes him stand out amongst the other classes.
