Work On The Banner Saga Sequel To Begin Soon
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Stoic has announced that the studio will soon begin work on a sequel to The Banner Saga. The developers also offered a thank you message to their fans. The Banner Saga combines elements of turn based strategy, role playing, and adventure games, and follows the exploits of a band of vikings.

The three of us at Stoic want to give a heart-felt thank you to all the fans who have supported us by playing The Banner Saga. We've gotten so many messages about personal experiences with the game that we've been quite honestly blown away. We didn't set out to make a game for everybody, but the people who like it have been incredibly, overwhelmingly supportive, far beyond what we had expected.

Aside from the relief that comes with knowing that we'll be able to keep working at Stoic for a long time to come, what has been really rewarding is the individuals who write to us saying things like "No game has ever been more worthy of the title 'Saga'. A saga is something epic, something that will linger in the minds and memories of people for years to come. For that is what The Banner Saga is, a little slice of perfection that nobody else can spoil." I can't tell you how validating and important that has been to us. To each of you who have supported us to make this journey become a reality: thank you.

The feedback we've gotten from players and reviewers have really been taken to heart. We've already put out the first patch fixing issues reported by players about bugs and balance and after a short hiatus we'll be coming back to work on the next game in the trilogy. If there's one complaint we've heard over and over, it's that the story isn't done.

Jagged Alliance: Back In Action Gives Mac Users Some Love
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Kalypso Media has announced that Jagged Alliance: Back in Action, the latest in the series of military-themed tactical games, will be available for Mac and Linux via digital distribution on February 14, 2014. Ported by Big Moon Studios using the Unity engine, the game will now give a new group of gamers the chance to liberate the island of Arulco.

Jagged Alliance: Back in Action puts players in control of a private military corporation that has been hired to depose an evil dictator, who has taken over the tropical island of Arulco.  Sector-by-sector, inch-by-inch, the player’s squads of mercenaries will recapture the island using their wits, willpower, tactical skills, and of course – plenty of guns.

Jagged Alliance: Back in Action takes players to the fictitious country of Arulco, where a ruthless dictator has seized power and only a small group of rebels stand to resist her. Tasked with freeing the island from the dictator’s iron grip, players will command rebel and mercenary forces while using tactical and economic tools to keep troops supplied and ready for the next flight, all while commanding them directly in nail-biting battles.

Back in Action’s innovative “plan & go” combat system combines real-time strategy (RTS) with turn-based elements to guarantee that the intricacies of tactical warfare are rendered in dynamic, exciting gameplay. This challenges would-be commanders to master not only strategy and tactical combat, but also to maximize their team’s capabilities through RPG-like character advancement.

Key features of Jagged Alliance: Back in Action:

  • Engage in a massive non-linear ground campaign to free the oppressed people of the gorgeously-rendered fictitious country of Arulco, assembling your own motley crew of mercenaries to get the job done.
  • Prowess in strategy and tactics is not enough; can you master the intricacies of RPG-like character development, a challenging economy and the logistics to keep your troops supplied – and strike at the right time with the right skills and proper weapons?
  • An innovative “plan & go” combat system combines turn-based planning with dynamic RTS execution.
  • Assemble your own combat squad from over 40 unique mercenaries, each with a detailed personality profile, including likes, dislikes, strengths, weakness and character flaws.
  • Simultaneously control multiple squads to flank the enemy from multiple sides as you try your hand at advanced combat tactics
Jagged Alliance: Back In Action will be available for £24.99/€29.99/$29.99. Players who already own the Windows version will automatically get access to the two new versions when they log onto their Steam account and download the game.

Kyn To Bring Tactical RPG Action To Macs This Summer
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Tangrin recently unveiled Kyn, a new tactical action role playing game set to launch on Mac, Windows, and Linux this summer. The company also released a trailer to showcase some of the game's "versatile environments and high-octane combat." Kyn features a single player world directly impacted by player actions, features 18 levels to explore, and offers the chance to control up to six party members.

Kyn is an evolving singleplayer world driven by player action. Your successes and failings will alter the place you call home. Embark on quests to unmask a faction shrouded in darkness and protect your people.
  • Explore 18 levels - each brimming with monsters to battles, gear to collect and spectacles to witness.
  • Control up to six party members in fervent combat, using skills to bolster your party and incinerate foes (quite literally!)
  • Developer your character’s mind, body or control - building a diverse group of warriors, able to withstand whatever's thrown at them.
Stay on your toes, enemies will adapt to your actions, using complex strategies to block your onslaught at every turn.

“We don’t treat monsters just as traditional monsters,” explains Victor Legerstee, co-founder of Tangrin. “Certain camps have elderly, unarmed women and children in their village they protect.”

Tangrin is a two-man Dutch developer formed in 2010, the result of a chance meeting, a shared passion and the desire to make make the kind of games they want to play – fun and intelligent, challenging but rewarding.
