Hearthstone: Heroes Of Warcraft Open Beta Launched
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Enterainment has announced the North American release of an open beta version of its upcoming Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, with beta launches coming soon for other regions as well. Planned for release on Mac, Windows, and iPad, the free-to-play virtual card game will allow players to build decks centered around one of the nine Warcraft character classes. Duelists will go head to head in card battles for the chance to win new cards.

The wait is over: The Hearthstone Open Beta Test is now live in North America! If you haven’t had the chance to partake in all of the crazy card-slinging action yet, now is the perfect chance to start casting powerful spells, summon mighty minions and duel your friends in this fast-paced strategy card game that anyone can dive into right away!

It’s been a crazy past few months for all of us on the Hearthstone team. We announced Hearthstone at PAX East back in March, began the Closed Beta Test in August, had a great Hearthstone event at BlizzCon with the Innkeeper’s Invitational along with our announcements for Android and iPhone support, and now we’re ready to unleash the awesomeness of Hearthstone to you with Open Beta!

So what does this mean for you? If you didn’t get the chance to participate in the Hearthstone Closed Beta Test, now is your chance to download the game! Just click to download Hearthstone, or you can use the Play Free Now button at the top of playhearthstone.com. We have no plans to perform any more wipes of Hearthstone, so feel free to amass your collection and play against your friends!

What if you don’t play in the North American region? Don’t worry; we plan to go to Open Beta for all of the other regions within the next few days as well, so stay tuned for more information!

As open beta is still a beta phase, we will be closely monitoring many aspects of the game to ensure a positive play experience for everyone. Please be aware that if smoke starts curling out of our servers due to unexpectedly high demand to play Hearthstone, we may have to temporarily disable open beta account activations for a time until we’re ready to take on more players.

Continue? 9876543210 Now At MGS
6:00 AM | IMG News | Comment on this story

Jason Oda's Continue?9876543210 is available now for purchase and download at Mac Game Store. The unique indie title puts players in the role of a dead video game character struggling to stave off inevitable deletion at the hands of the garbage collector.

You are a dead, failed video game character wandering through the recesses of the Random Access Memory, trying to find peace in the final moments of your existence before being deleted forever...

For fans of cerebral games such as Gone Home, The Novelist, and Papers Please.

What happens to dead video game characters?

In the garbage dump of the Random Access Memory, you travel from town to town, meeting people who offer you their lightning and their prayer. Lightning clears the way for you to move forward and prayer builds shelters in a distant town where you must frequently hide to avoid being deleted into nothingness by the garbage collector. Along the way, you are thrust into many battle challenges, the outcome of which affects your shelters. There is ultimately, no way to escape the garbage collector, but running from it buys you time to think, wander, contemplate, and hopefully be at peace with the inevitability of your deletion.

Each game randomly assigns you 1 of the 6 characters and 6 of the 11 areas. There is no set order to the stages of the game.

Development

Continue? was inspired by existential road trips into nowhere, Peruvian jungle drugs, and a brush with death while lost in the mountains of New Mexico. It is a quest for wonder, contemplation, and peace.

StarCraft II Patch Expands Free To Play Options
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has released patch 2.1 for its sci-fi RTS StarCraft II. In addition to the usual bug fixes and updates the patch also expands the options available to players using the free Starter Edition of the game. Starter Edition users will now have access to all three races, be able to play any custom game, and make use of all the maps, mods, and games within the Arcade.

Patch 2.1 is finally here and it introduces a bevy of features for everyone who owns StarCraft II. But what about your friends who’ve been interested and haven’t yet taken the plunge? We’re happy to announce new features available in the free StarCraft II Starter Edition.

Let’s talk about the biggest change: The StarCraft II Arcade is now completely free. In the past, if you didn’t own StarCraft II, you were only able to play the Blizzard-made games (Starjeweled, Auir Chef, and Left 2 Die) as well as the current Arcade Highlights. Now, tens of thousands of games, even those requiring Heart of the Swarm, are available to absolutely anyone.

Since we’ll have more players in the Arcade, we think this is a good time to resolve an issue that comes up from time to time: AFK lobby hosts. When a player creates a game and then goes to heat up a snack, completely forgetting about their game, what can you do? Well, in Patch 2.1, if a lobby host has been inactive for a period of time, a prompt will appear to confirm that they’re still at their keyboard. If the player does not respond, they will be removed from the lobby and a new host will be chosen. As with all changes we make, we’ll make sure to monitor this system and make tweaks to it if necessary.

In the past, if you didn’t own StarCraft II and you wanted to play, you were limited to a small number of maps and could only play as Terran. However, in patch 2.1 we’re unlocking every single melee map and all three StarCraft II Races. Now your friends that don’t own StarCraft II can try out the voracious Zerg, the rough and rugged Terran, or the enigmatic Protoss on an

Free Arcade and More:

  • The entirety of the Arcade, along with all of the maps, mods, and games found within, has been made accessible to all StarCraft II: Starter Edition players for free.
  • All Custom Games are now available to Starter Edition players.
  • All three races have been unlocked for Starter Edition players.
  • More information can be found in our Free Arcade blog. You can also check out our Free Arcade and Art Tools videos.
