Tropico 4: Gold Edition Now Available
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 8 comments

Feral Interactive has released Tropico 4: Gold Edition. Developed by Haemimont Games and published by Kalypso Media for Windows and Xbox 360, Tropico 4: Gold Edition is the latest installment of the Tropico series to be launched on the Mac by Feral Interactive and follows Tropico 3: Gold Edition.

Tropico 4: Gold Edition is a witty combination of city builder and political simulator that continues the colorful career of 'El Presidente', the charismatic ruler of the Caribbean paradise of Tropico. As El Presidente, players will transform Tropico from insignificant banana republic to serious world power over the course of a 20-mission campaign that sees them grapple with picky first-world tourists, demanding political factions, unforeseen natural disasters and even a missile crisis!

With a nation in the palm of their hand, players must decide whether to rule as a benevolent leader, despicable despot, left-wing idealist or champion of the free market. Whatever they choose, they will wield their influence over every aspect of Tropico's economy, infrastructure, politics and even its place on the world stage. All the while ensuring that a constant stream of revenue finds its way into a certain offshore bank account.

Tropico 4: Gold Edition includes the Modern Times expansion pack, which powers Tropico into the 21st century with an entirely separate 12-mission campaign that challenges El Presidente to protect his nation from unseen and sinister forces including online propaganda and a New World Order. Modern Times features 30 new buildings including a diamond cathedral, the mysterious "Babel Tower" and even a space program.

Shadowrun Returns Launches
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Harebrained Schemes has announced the launch of the Shadowrun Returns RPG. The role playing game will return players to the Shadowrun universe which features a mixture of cyberpunk tech and high fantasy magic.

Shadowrun Returns is broken in a number of rather important ways. But it’s so damn good I’ve enjoyed almost all of it, and am ready for more.

Above all else, the setting, the world that the game presents is very well fleshed out, something I’ve not experienced since Planescape: Torment. Undoubtedly it helps that there’s so much source material to pillage, but the campaign presents you with weird and wonderful choices from the outset: five races, six classes (or none), and seven “etiquettes” to choose from, with the guarantee that whichever combination you choose will be unlike anything you’ve played before. Pick a female Troll Street Samurai with Gang etiquette, or a male Dwarf Mage with Street etiquette, then ignore all of that and pick whichever skills you like from the comprehensive tree.

Vendetta Online Adds Oculus Rift Support For Windows
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

Guild Software has announced the Windows version of their space MMORPG Vendetta Online now supports the Oculus Rift family of VR headset devices. The company plans to expand the support to other platforms as well.

"We're thrilled to help our players experience the next level of immersion in a virtual world," said John Bergman, founder and creative director of Guild Software.

The debut of Rift compatibility in Vendetta Online marks the first time a live MMORPG has officially released support for the head-mounted display. The presence of the Oculus Rift is automatically detected on game startup, offering the player the option of enabling VR mode.

"For the moment, support is limited to the Windows version of our game, but we intend to expand this to other platforms with device compatibility," said Bergman.

The release of the Rift support also coincides with a major new graphics update for the game, one of many to come, most recently adding highly detailed planets and new procedural nebula.

About Vendetta Online

Vendetta Online is among the longest-running and most broadly cross-platform 3D MMOs available today, debuting in early 2002 on Windows, Mac and Linux. Since then, the game broke ground on Android in 2011, becoming the first PC MMO to make the leap to mobile, and later adding support for iOS, WinRT and independent consoles like the OUYA. The title remains a rare blend of space trading, mining and truly realtime combat, with all clients and platforms connecting to a single online galaxy. Everlove Announced, Designed For Romance Readers
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 3 comments

Silicon Sisters Interactive has announced Everlove, a casual game designed to appeal to "the more than 74 million people who read romance fiction each year." Described as an interactive narrative that plays like a romance novel brought to life, Everlove will release for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Android in August with versions for Mac and Windows PC to follow.

In the book industry, romance is a hugely popular genre that yielded sales of $1.438 billion in 2012, according to the Romance Writers of America (http://www.rwa.org) -- more than mystery and sci-fi/fantasy novels combined. Romance readers are 91% women, the majority between ages 30-54. This demographic intersects perfectly with the predominantly female audience of casual games.

"Look at the splash Fifty Shades of Grey made last year. Romance fiction has a huge audience that no one else in the game industry is trying to reach," says Brenda Bailey Gershkovitch. "Video games traditionally explore male fantasies: winning a fight, competing in sports, saving the princess. We at Silicon Sisters love some of those games, as do plenty of other women. But a game that specifically delves into female fantasies -- what is that game like? That's a question we're trying to answer with Everlove."

With a focus on storytelling, character interaction, and lite HOG elements, Everlove puts players in the shoes of a young woman named Rose who has turned to past-life regression to gain insight into her personal problems. Under hypnosis, Rose is transported to the pastoral village of Heart's Home, where she soon discovers that she has chemistry with several of the locals. While building relationships, uncovering carefully guarded secrets, and navigating personal dramas, players define Rose's character and choose her path, with the game's outcome reflecting on the very issues that the modern-day protagonist wants to resolve.

Silicon Sisters' portfolio includes two School 26 games for teen and tween girls, which have had approximately 700k downloads in more than 30 countries. Everlove will be the studio's first game for adult women.

About Silicon Sisters Interactive
Silicon Sisters Interactive is the first female owned and run video game studio in Canada. Founded and staffed by industry veterans with decades of hands-on experience, the company is committed to developing high quality, inspirational games with a decidedly female focus -- games made by women and girls, for women and girls. For more information, visit the corporate website at siliconsisters.ca or Silicon Sisters' Facebook and Twitter pages at facebook.com/SiliconSisters and twitter.com/SiliconSisters.

Silicon Sisters has launched an Everlove Facebook page, where more game details and assets will be unveiled leading up to the game's August release.
