Anomaly 2 Launched
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

11 bit studios has launched Anomaly 2, the sequel to Anomaly Warzone Earth. Coming to Mac, Windows, and Linux PCs, the "tower offense" title features multiplayer action, a new single player campaign, and more than a million tactical combinations for squad building.

In the years following the invasion of Earth in 2018, the planet is overrun by alien machines. Humankind is on the verge of extinction. Banded together in huge convoys, they search the frozen tundra for food and supplies. Since the war, the roles have been reversed: now our species seems to be the Anomaly on a machine-controlled planet. Your convoy, Commander, is called Yukon.

Anomaly 2 is a real-time strategy game that takes the tower offense concept from Anomaly Warzone Earth to a new level. Maintaining the core concepts of the original – tactical planning and the on-field Commander to support troops in combat – Anomaly 2 introduces a number of important new features:

  • Morph your troops into war mechs to discover the new face of strategy: each unit has a different mech form with various abilities to help you overcome specific combat situations.
  • Engage in a multiplayer experience unique to Anomaly 2: tower defense vs. tower offense. Play as the towers and destroy the humans or lead the humans to annihilate the alien towers.
  • Fight across a post-apocalyptic world in a new single-player campaign that offers a more intense strategy experience than the acclaimed original.
  • Carve your own path to victory and create your ultimate battle squad. With more than a million tactical combinations to build your squad, your options in combat are nearly endless.
  • Dive into a beautifully rendered world, thanks to the team’s new and improved visual engine.
  • Experience alternative endings dependent upon your approach to enemy machines in the campaign.

CastleAbra Delivering Old School Adventuring This Summer
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

CastleAbra Studios has announced a summer release for its new adventure game, CastleAbra. Scheduled to release for Mac OS, Windows, iOS, and Android, the game is a first person point and click adventure centering around a simple villager's quest to save a princess.

CastleAbra is an old-fashioned adventure game. In development for over 3 years, it is a massive, first person point and clicker. Featuring dozens of rooms filled with monsters and a cast of characters embroiled in a dark comedic love story.

Heavily inspired by our favorite adventure game “Shadowgate”, it has all the nostalgic trappings of the great adventure games of yesteryear. But with sophisticated humor and lowbrow silliness, it tells a unique story of broken hearts, eternal yearnings, and shattered dreams!

You play Nubbin Pureheart. A simple villager tasked with saving the Princess Myrna Loo who has been imprisoned by the love struck Wizardo. Your plan is to gain the Wizard’s trust and work behind his back to rescue her. Sounds simple enough, but numerous strangers and side quests will complicate your journey.

You can read about the making of CastleAbra in our ground breaking “PreMortem”. This in depth comic journal will explain the tragic story of our ridiculously long development process and explain the reasoning behind our unusual approach to marketing.

CastleAbra is tentatively planned to launch in June. Head over to the links below to read more.

The Beastmaster Of Project Eternity
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Obsidian Entertainment has released another new early development blog post focusing on the creation of its upcoming Project Eternity RPG. The post reveals details about the creation of the game's monsters, explaining the process of taking an example creature, the Cean Gúla, through the concept phase.

One of my responsibilities has been creating the bestiary for Project Eternity. I'll admit, it's been a lot of work, but it's also been a lot fun. Like most of the things we do here at Obsidian, the process has been very collaborative. We have a few high-level goals regarding this process on Project Eternity.
  • Creature Variety - The goal is to have a large library of creatures to use for the final game. Thus far, we're on track to meet this goal. The concept artists, modelers and animators have been tearing through the bestiary and delivering quality assets at a rapid pace.
  • Recognizable is Good - We don't want to try to reinvent the wheel with every single monster. As we've shown in an earlier update, we feel some classic monsters, like the ogre, are essential to capture the adventuring feel we are aiming for. Moving forward, we are committed to including monsters that we feel fans will appreciate, while giving the beasties flavor appropriate to the world of Project Eternity.
  • Different if Cool - We've already shown one of the unique creatures for Project Eternity in an earlier update, the skuldr. We will continue to create other unique, and often times bizarre, creatures to populate our world, but unique doesn't always need to feel bizarre. Different because it's cool is the goal.
