6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Hidden Path Entertainment has announced they are developing Defense Grid 2. The tower defense sequel is in development for Mac, Windows, and Linux PCs and will feature a new campaign, multiple planets, multiplayer modes, user created content support, and the ability to create custom levels.

When?! When is it coming?

The first half of 2014. Yeah that’s a mighty big window, and we’ll narrow that as we get further along in the development process.

What kind of stuff will we see in DG2?

So much stuff. A new campaign, multiple planets, freakin’ MULTIPLAYER modes, user-created content support, new aliens, new towers and new characters, and the ability to create—wait for it—custom levels.

New characters? Will Fletcher be back?

Of course!

How about the new characters introduced in Defense Grid: Containment?

Yup! Cai and Simon will be back.

Hell Invaders Riding In On A Spicy Horse
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Spicy Horse Games, developer of games such as Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, BigHead BASH, and Crazy Fairies, has revealed its next project is a collectible card game/RTS set in the Underworld. Currently given the working title Hell Invaders, the game will include both a single player campaign and PvP arenas, as well as trading, card management, and other social features.

Hell Invaders features actual card battles--rather than two cards "fighting" on a table, the creatures within the cards actually have 3D representations that fight it out--as well as cards that sport upgrades and swappable skills, so even cards for the same creature can be completely different.

Players can battle it out in a single player campaign or take up cards and fight in PVP arenas. For more peacefully inclined souls, trading, card management and other social features provide ways to enjoy eternal damnation.

Hell Invaders is currently scheduled for a Fall release and will be playable on Mac, Windows, and Linux PCs, as well as tablets.

Spicy Horse will reveal more about Hell Invaders, including the final title and publisher, in the upcoming months.

Operation Payback Begins For Counter-Strike Global Offensive
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Valve has announced the release of Operation Payback, the first of an ongoing series of limited-time updates aimed at providing financial reward to some of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's most popular and prolific mapmakers. Available from now until July 31st, 2013, Operation Payback is a collection of seven top-voted Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) community maps hosted on official servers and available to play with the purchase of a pass.

Since its launch in February, the CS:GO Maps Workshop has amassed over 1,400 community-made maps. "Operation Payback" offers the CS:GO community a chance to play seven of the highest-voted Workshop Maps through the uninterrupted low-ping play of official servers - all while rewarding the makers of CS:GO's top-rated virtual maps with real money. Buying a pass also lets players bring their friends along to any "Operation Payback" match. Contributors will also get to show off their support with a one-of-a-kind challenge coin, upgradable by playing and viewable wherever their avatars are shown. For a limited time players can buy a pass for only $2.99 (USD).

CS:GO is the latest expansion of the team-based multiplayer Counter-Strike franchise. Since its initial release in Fall of 1999, Counter-Strike has become the number one played online action game, surpassing all commercial and noncommercial titles in its class.

Version 14.2.9 adds a variety of bug fixes and improvements to the game, most notably a new "auto-play to next playoff round" option for league play. Out of the Park Baseball 14 features 2013 major league rosters, a completely recoded player origin system, new fielding ratings development system, better player development tracking, and an expanded real-time simulation experience.

Changes in version 14.2.9:

  • Fixes reported bugs
  • Fixes rare crashing and freezing issues
  • Includes updated & improved major league rosters (must start new game for changes to take effect)
  • Added "Auto-play to next playoff round" to the play menu, if the league is in playoff mode
  • Added an input line which lets you modify the internal historical year of the league (progressing options in game setup) which is used for auto-import routines. That makes it easier to properly set up fictional historical leagues.
