League Of Legends Mac Beta Client Available
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

Riot Games has announced the release of an open beta version of the popular online multiplayer strategy game, League of Legends. The Mac client matches the Windows PC client in terms of features, bug fixes, and new content. League of Legends is a session based multiplayer online game which challenges rival teams to compete for victory.

Going native on Mac has been a big goal for us, and we’re really excited to offer the same experience across both platforms.

The Mac client does everything that the PC client does, meaning you’ll get all future features, bug fixes and new content on the same schedule as PC players, but on your native OS. The Cross-Platform team will also continue working diligently to smash any Mac bugs that surface during the open beta.

We want to thank Mac players for waiting so patiently – and a special thanks to the awesome summoners over at iLoL who helped you play on your native OS while the official client was in development. You rock, iLoLers, and we appreciate all the dedication you’ve shown to your fellow Mac-enthusiasts.

IMG Reviews LEGO Lord Of The Rings
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of Feral Interactive's LEGO The Lord of the Rings. Developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for consoles, handhelds and PC, LEGO The Lord of the Rings brings the unique brick-based humor of the LEGO games to the legendary world of Middle-earth.

Here's an excerpt:

Graphically, the game is the best in the LEGO series. Some of the set pieces are fantastic and you can really tell the team at Travellers Tales are fans of the series given the level of detail going into environments. From maneuvering through the mines of Moria to walking through the streets of Gondor the lighting and weather are what really put this game ahead of the other LEGO World titles.

The port itself, dealt with by Feral Interactive, is seamless and smooth. Even with minimal graphical options it is nice to be able to play the game at the highest settings without it really ever testing my machine. I didn't run into any game crashes or other technical bugs and the game ran above the standard 30 FPS easily. The port also comes packing driver support for various controllers.

LEGO The Lord of the Rings for the Mac is available now for $29.99 (USD).

Early Access For Insurgency Pre-Purchasers
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

New World Interactive announced recently it is offering "Early Access" to those interested in playing Insurgency, its upcoming tactical first-person shooter for Mac and Windows PCs. Those who pre-purchase the game receive early access to a pre-beta version, the promise of entry into the eventual beta test, as well as a copy of the full version once it is released.

INSURGENCY’s “Early Access” invitation is an example of an indie development team working directly with its community to create a compelling combat experience, while distinguishing itself from mainstream shooters. The game moves away from a release-package publishing model to a persistent development process that adapts an established genre with the future of social gaming.

“Early Access,” a pre-beta look at the development of INSURGENCY, enables participants to talk and play with the developers, for the price of $19.99. This will provide players with the Early Access build, the subsequent Beta, and the final game when it ships later this year. To Join “Early Access,” go to the INSURGENCY site at:

INSURGENCY is a first-person team-based shooter for up to 32-plus players designed for Windows® PC and Mac OS X (and in the future, Linux), using Valve’s Source Engine and distributed through the Steam platform. If the name INSURGENCY sounds familiar, that’s because it is based on the popular total conversion for Half-Life 2 -- Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat -- that saw more than a million free downloads and was awarded the ModDB “Player’s Choice Mod of the Year” in 2007.

Key features to INSURGENCY include:

  • Intense 32-plus player online action with a focus on teamwork
  • Customizing the game’s arsenal to player’s preferred style
  • Choosing from three unique classes that affect movement on the battlefield
  • Highly immersive audio with 3D VOIP to coordinate with and track other players

Star Wars Pinball Released
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

An IMG reader has informed us that Zen Studios recently announced the release of Star Wars Pinball, a collection of pinball tables for Zen Pinball 2. The DLC features tables for The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett, and The Clone Wars.

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back Pinball Table

The Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back pinball table is inspired by the events of the beloved film. The exciting action takes center stage on the main deck of the Executors Star Destroyer, and features iconic scenes that play in the dot matrix display when missions are activated during gameplay.

Join Luke Skywalker as he embraces the power of the Force and leads the charge to repel the advances of Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire. The experience would not be complete without a host of fully functional 3D objects including an AT-AT walker (with circling Snow Speeder!), a Tie Fighter, Ion Cannon and of course the emblematic lightsabers of Luke Skywalker andDarth Vader.

Star Wars Pinball Boba Fett Table

The Boba Fett pinball table features fast-paced pinball action, and focuses on several major moments in Boba Fett’s bounty hunting career as he takes on jobs from two clients: the Galactic Empire and the Hutts. The table would not be complete without a Han Solo in Carbonite spinner and Sarlacc Pit!

Star Wars Pinball The Clone Wars

Star Wars: The Clone Wars table embraces the striking artistic style and energy of the series and is a perfect fit for a high energy pinball table. The incredible art, momentous light saber battles, and exhilarating action that makes the series so enjoyable translates naturally into an amazing pinball experience. Check out the trailer to see the table in action.

Set between the events of the Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the Star Wars: The Clone Wars pinball table features Anakin Skywalker and his apprentice, Ahsoka Tano, both represented as 3D characters, as well as Asajj Ventress, Savage Opress and battle Droids. The table would not be complete without a Republic attack gunship, which is especially spectacular when the table is played in 3D.

Head over to the page below for more information and videos of the new tables in action.
