Guns Of Icarus Online Update & Trailer Released

Muse Games has announced the release of a new trailer and update for its post-apocalyptic airship combat game, Guns of Icarus Online. Version 1.4 offers a variety of additions including new features and balance adjustments. The co-operative airship combat game mixes together first-person shooter action with team-based strategy, and is available now for Mac and Windows PCs.

Hop aboard an airship with three of your friends and battle it out in the skies against your enemies. Choose to play as Pilot, Engineer, or Gunner to fit your skills and play skill.

Achievements, player progression, skills, loadout customization, integrated voice chat... we've got it all and always more to come.

February's update to v. 1.1.4 brings a slew of balance updates and new features. Here are just a few of the highlights:

  • New 3v3 versions of most Deathmatch maps added
  • New "Fight over Firnfeld" map, a deathmatch version of Anglean Raiders
  • Improved context-sensitive tutorials to aid and instruct new players
  • Improved graphical display of weapons stats to help you hone your strategy
  • New AI and damage controls in Sandbox to get the most from your practice sessions
  • Balance changes to make fire-starting and fire-fighting more interesting
  • Balance adjustments to numerous weapons and skills
  • New spawn logic to prevent spawn camping
  • AFK button and AFK detection/kick to keep your whole crew on their feet
  • Graphical optimizations to improve framerate on lower-end machines
  • Linux release

Shadowrun Returns: The Power Of Text, Editor Features

Harebrained Schemes has released a new update on the status of the upcoming Shadowrun Returns RPG. The lengthy post includes information about the ways the developers are using text to create a deep game experience, as well as details on the Shadowrun Returns editor.

We can’t afford to put everything in our imaginations onto the screen, so instead we decided to put it into your imagination via “theater of the mind”. By combining beautiful environments and characters with cleverly-integrated text, we hope to inspire you to “see” and “hear” things that we could never afford to put on your screen or out of your speakers.

Shadowrun Returns integrates text into gameplay in four ways:

  • Chapter and Scene Introductions set the context and emotional landscape for the scene you are about to play
  • In-world GM pop-ups describe the sights, sounds, and smells that your character is experiencing at this moment. For those of you who are unfamiliar with tabletop role-playing, GM stands for “Game Master” - the person charged with setting the stage and refereeing the action.
  • In-world character speech bubbles provide short quips from your characters and our NPCs, providing insights into their actions. Of course, sometimes, they’re just for entertainment.
  • Our conversation window allows you to have in-depth branching conversations with characters in the world, as well as GM narration that helps bring those characters to life. (Although we can’t animate the single tear traveling down the street urchin’s face, we can type it!)

Wasteland 2 Video Details Revealed

InXile Entertainment has released some new information about the recently revealed gameplay video from the upcoming Wasteland 2. The new information includes details about the game camera, heads up display, and keyword dialog system. A sequel to the classic post-apocalyptic RPG of the 80's, Wasteland 2 will be a top down, turn-based, tactical RPG that the developers promise will "stay true to its roots."

It was very exciting for us here at inXile to see such great reception to our first-look video for Wasteland 2. We made this video so that all 63,000 of you could see what we were up to. As of today the video has been seen over 370,000 times! There was such an outpouring of overwhelmingly positive support it literally took us a week to take it all in. To make sure we’re communicating properly with you all, we thought it would be good to provide a more thorough explanation about some of the systems that seemed to receive the most comments.

Our goal with all of our systems is to allow you to customize them, including their keyboard short cuts, to get the exact input system you want. For all systems we have a default setting that we feel provides the best experience, but knowing that everybody has their own preferences we have implemented a robust settings menu.

More Questions Answered About The Elder Scrolls Online

ZeniMax Online Studios has posted the results of another new Q&A answering fan questions about the upcoming MMO adaptation of Bethesda's Elder Scrolls universe. The developer answered questions on a variety of topics related to The Elder Scrolls Online.

I've been waiting for years and years to play a tank-oriented character with light armor. Will only characters with heavy armor be able to tank, or will our role be more dependent on the abilities used/chosen?

Generally, as a tank-oriented character, being in heavy armor will be the most reasonable course of action because it lends itself well to absorbing damage and taking the big hits. However, if you choose to increase your health to the max and carefully choose your abilities, you could build a light armor character that would last a good, long time on the front lines.

I've watched the videos and read the articles, but most of the details on classes have been mainly about how you can be a hybrid. I commonly play strictly healing roles. Will it be viable (or possible) to make a pure healer?

Yes. You will definitely be able to play a healer. As the game has evolved, we’ve really downplayed classes quite a bit in the design, and we’ve really played up the skill lines and the choices you make. For instance, if you wanted to focus entirely on healing at first, you might choose Templar and the Restoration staff lines. Later, if you decided not to be a healer all the time, you could work on other lines.
By choosing your weapon, passives, and buffs and filling your five active ability slots, you’ll really decide how you want to approach any given situation. The more you play, the broader your choices will be.
