Vendetta Online Adds Free To Play Goal To Kickstarter
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
Guild Software has posted an update to its Vendetta Online Kickstarter campaign, introducing a new Free to Play goal to the list of additions a successful campaign will bring. In addition to the new Free to Play option, some of the game enhancements planned if the Kickstarter is successful include improved graphics, improved player owned capital ships, larger asteroid fields, more mineral types, more complex space stations, more persistent NPC types, and a new version of the game for iPad owners.
If our Kickstarter succeeds, we will offer a free-to-play access tier before the end of the year, following roughly this design:Guild Software is hoping to reach its $100,000 goal before the February 24 Kickstarter target. Check out the site below to learn more and view the trailer showcasing some of Guild's plans.
Vendetta Online Free To Play Tier
About the Kickstarter:
- Subscribers will still exist, entitled to the best game experience without limitations, including unfettered access to all current and future "endgame" constructs (ownership of stations, capships and territory, guild creation/command, high military rank, etc).
- "Free To Play" characters will have a relatively low/mid level cap, and will be prevented from creating guilds or any of the other endgame content mentioned above. For instance, within the upcoming RTS advancements in our battles, only subscribers would be able to hold command positions, while F2P players could not advance beyond lower enlisted ranks.
- Microtransactions, should they be added, would only be offered to F2P users. They would simply allow the F2P user to purchase access to equipment or features that would otherwise be available at their character level. Subscribers would have no such need, without any limitations on availability or level caps.
- Even with maximum use of purchasing power, F2P users would ultimately be capped well below that of subscribers, and would have no faster access to level or equipment, as their character level progress would not be impacted by purchasing power. Thus, subscribers will always have the best experience, as well as the entirely "level" playing field.
"We'll be thrilled to bring our intense brand of multi-player space gaming to the iPad family of devices," said John Bergman, CEO of Guild Software. "Our game offers a seamless transition between desktop and mobile, so players can easily switch back and forth between their iPad and their Mac without limitation."
The game made headlines back in March of 2011, when it launched on the Android platform and became the first 3D MMO to make the jump from PC to mobile, quickly climbing to the #1 paid app on the Play Store and taking center stage in a series of Verizon TV commercials. Now the team at Guild Software is ready to make that leap again, and with the help of supporters will deliver an even more polished and premium experience for iPad owners.
All players and platforms share the same universe within Vendetta Online, so iOS users will rub elbows with those on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and WinRT. Beyond iPad support, the Kickstarter could also help fund the next major expansion of the title's gameplay, including enhanced player-owned capital ships and territorial conquest, and is scheduled for completion near the end of 2013.
For over a decade Vendetta Online has blended an intense mix of combat, trading, mining, and exploration to create a distinctive MMO experience. From giant space battles over the dynamic conquest of territory, to player-manufactured capships and guild-owned stations, the title continues to push the envelope of what is possible in an online game.

Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Could Be Available This Year

Frictional Games has announced that Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, the upcoming first person horror title in development at thechineseroom, could be available for release in the second quarter of this year. Although not a direct sequel to Frictional's original game, the first person horror title exists in the same universe and takes place on New Year's Day 1899, in London.
Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs reached a major milestone last week, when thechineseroom sent us their final version of the game, representing over a year's worth of hard work. But don't get too excited just yet!More information about the game will be released in the days leading up to release.
A Machine For Pigs Status Update
Some work is still left to be done. We are testing, tweaking, optimizing, porting, translating and all those things that are part of the process of creating and releasing a game. Currently we are looking at a release around Q2 2013.
How come a game meant for Halloween 2012 has been delayed for so long? Originally we thought it would be a short, experimental game set in the universe of Amnesia, but thechineseroom had a vision that was bigger than that. As their work progressed, the potential for a much greater project emerged. What we ended up with is no longer what we had first imagined, but a fully fledged Amnesia game. A different kind of Amnesia, but definitely not a short experiment.
