6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 3 comments

The Maxis Label of Electronic Arts have announced that The Sims 3: University Life and The Sims 3: Island Paradise Expansion Packs, as well as an untitled new expansion and a stuff pack, are in development and will be available to players in 2013. Also, available on January 25 is The Sims 3: 70's, 80's, & 90's Stuff, in which players can warp their Sims back in time with the hottest fashions, hairstyles and furnishings from decades past.

“With the release of three new expansion packs, a new stuff pack, and premium content through The Sims 3 Store, we are looking forward to seeing what our players create and share online with so many great options,” said Scott Evans General Manager of The Sims Studio. He continues, “We are dedicated to building quality games with unique themes and exciting new content for The Sims 3 that add tremendous depth to The Sims 3 gameplay experience.”

Coming this March, The Sims 3 University Life will give players an opportunity to leave home and attend university, where they will enroll in classes, earn degrees and discover the crazy antics and hijinks that go hand-in-hand with the college lifestyle. From juice-keggers to new social groups, to protests in the quad and young love, there’s much more to university than time spent in the classroom. Sims will explore an all-new college town filled with new locations to visit such as the bowling alley and SimBurger and discover hidden talents through an array of extra-curricular activities, including spray painting murals, playing games of kicky bag in the quad and so much more!

The Sims 3 University Life opens a new chapter for young adult to elder Sims and anyone in between. Once a Sim is enrolled in university, they will pick from one of six majors and work towards earning a degree. From class activities to major-specific objects, The Sims 3 University Life will poise Sims for multiple benefits in their careers, including accelerated pay, higher career entry, new opportunities and more.

Available for pre-order is The Sims 3 University Life Limited Edition Expansion Pack, which includes the Party Pack consisting of the Partaeus Maximus statue, a toga outfit and a masquerade mask. The Partaeus Maximus statue is an all-new object that will appear in the university world and enable Sims to choose from six different party themes and throw the ultimate bash.

Dropping anchor this June is The Sims 3 Island Paradise, an expansion pack filled with adventure, exploration and a world of new discoveries set on the sunny shores and beneath the glistening water of a tropical paradise. For the first time ever, Sims can take the helm of fully customizable houseboats and set sail in search of uncharted islands, create, own and manage resorts or discover what lies beneath the ocean through the new skill-based scuba diving and snorkeling activities. The Sims 3 Island Paradise introduces all new ways to build - whether it’s a lavish five-star resort, a bungalow on the water or a houseboat that can travel the seas. Players can create their own idea of island paradise for their Sims in this new expansion pack and embark on an unforgettable journey.

Launching this fall is an all-new stuff pack that is filled with clothing and décor inspired by iconic movie themes and settings. Additionally this fall, Sims will finally be able to travel to the future in an all-new expansion pack, currently untitled. More details will be revealed in the coming months, but Sims will certainly have the time of their lives this year with the offerings from The Sims 3.

IMG Reviews LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of Feral Interactive's LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. Developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for consoles, handhelds and Windows PC, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes "takes the much-loved brick-based action of LEGO games to the next level with an intricate open-world structure and sparkling dialogue."

Here's an excerpt:

If you have played any LEGO game before, you will be familiar with the method of play. You run your characters through an area populated with objects and people created from LEGO pieces. Many of the objects and people in this environment can be attacked and broken into their pieces, which release a variety of pips you collect for points. Higher value pips are often placed in areas of the screen that are hard to reach or difficult to see. When you fight a bad guy, they often drop hearts, which can be collected to replenish the four hearts (think lives) each character has. The character loses a heart if they “die”. Death occurs when you are defeated by a baddie, or you manage to kill your character by falling too far, jumping into a dangerous area, accidentally punching them, or otherwise breaking them up. Additional hearts are purchased automatically from the points you collect as you run about the world.

Omerta - City Of Gangsters Coming To Macs This Year
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

Kalypso Media recently announced that Omerta – City of Gangsters, the 1920’s-era gangster-themed game scheduled for a February 1st release on Xbox 360 and Windows PCs, is now also slated for release on the Mac platform in "early 2013." Desgned by the the team behind Tropico 3 and 4, Omerta mixes conquest-styled strategic play with tactical combat. To celebrate the announcement Kalypso also unveiled a new trailer.

Omerta – City of Gangsters is a simulation game with tactical turn-based combat. Taking the role of a fresh-off-the-boat immigrant, with dreams of the big life, the player will work his way up the criminal hierarchy of 1920’s Atlantic City, New Jersey. Starting with small jobs, his character recruits a gang and expands his empire by taking territory from other gangsters. Eventually he establishes his own crime syndicate and becomes the de facto ruler of Atlantic City.

The player strategically manages his business and his minions in a real-time format, slowly but steadily increasing his influence over the city. The player sends his henchmen out on missions ranging from assassinating an informant, to raiding a warehouse, springing a friend from prison, robbing a bank or attacking a rival gang’s hideout. Nobody is above the law in Atlantic City, so it always helps to have a little cash handy to bribe a policeman or pay off a politician.

The turn-based combat in Omerta – City of Gangsters focuses on the tactical command of “The Boss” and his henchmen. Cover and stealth are essential parts of any shootout in the game. Finding the best vantage point to gun down an enemy, while taking cover from a hailstorm of bullets, can be just as satisfying as sneaking quietly behind a foe and taking him down.

Now included in the release of Omerta, there will now be cross-platform multiplayer play between Windows PC and Mac, along with full support for Steam Cloud Saves on both platforms.

SimCity Introduction Video Released
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

EA has released the introduction video from the upcoming SimCity. Scheduled for a March 8 release, development of the latest incarnation of the popular city building sim is being led by Maxis. SimCity Mac will once again give players the chance to construct and manage a thriving city.

The introduction video will kick start players’ experiences as soon as they login into the game. Using all gameplay footage, the video shows off Multi-city play beginning with an expansive aerial view of one of the regions in the game before it dives into city specialisation, providing fans with a glimpse into how their cities can look when they specialise in dirty coal power, clean nuclear or wind power, or tourism. The video ends with the first look at the Space Centre, one of the Great Works that players can work to create together when the game launches on March 8, 2013.

Developed by the renowned Maxis studio in Emeryville, SimCity delivers unprecedented depth of simulation with the new GlassBox Engine, where everything is simulated, including up to 100,000 individual Sims in a city, to every Kilowatt of power pulsing through a region of cities. The model-like world and detail of the simulation make this the most responsive and personal SimCity ever. This is also the most expansive city management game yet where multi-city gameplay across regions delivers a larger playing field. Play a single city or up to 16 cities at once each with different specialisations, it’s your choice.

Multiplayer is also a first for the series, adding a new dimension to the game, as decisions impact both the city and the region, creating new ways to play by collaborating or competing to earn achievements. Finally, SimCity is a live service that simulates real-time updates and pushes them to players in the form of new challenges. Through this platform, Maxis is also able to provide a continuous stream of new gameplay features and content. Whether you play by yourself, with your friends or the rest of the world, SimCity introduces an infinite world of possibilities. What kind of mayor will you be?
