IMG Interviews OOTP Baseball Creator Markus Heinsohn
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a new interview with Out of the Park Developments' Markus Heinsohn about his long running Out of the Park Baseball series, currently in its 13th incarnation. The interview covers a variety of topics including the inspiration for the first game, the source of his creativity, and how fan input shapes each new version in the series.

Jon Carr: How did OOTP start out? What sparked its initial conception and release?

Markus Heinsohn: A friend of mine brought home a bat and a glove from a trip to Miami, so we started hitting tennis balls into the neighbor’s gardens. That was in 1991. We then formed a baseball club and started playing in organized baseball leagues in 1994. In the meantime I played all sorts of baseball computer games, but there was no management-related game that I liked, so in 1998 I decided to simply develop my own game, just for fun. When it was done in 1999, I figured it was probably good enough to earn some money with it, and that’s when it all started.

Shadowrun Returns Interview & Concept Art Available
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Harebrained Schemes has released a new video Q&A with Jordan Weisman and Mitch Gitelman about the upcoming Shadowrun Returns RPG, as well as a series of early concept art pieces. In the interview the developers discussed a variety of topics including the game's release date, factions, and mission editor.

As most of you know, Mitch and Jordan had no idea what they were going to be asked, so all their answers are deliciously raw. But as far as those answers go, you know the drill: everything’s a work in progress, ideas are subject to change, some ideas in the video just burst up on the spot—all that jazz. Basically, the video’s totally honest, but honest for what’s true right now. As with all game development, we have to balance what’s cool versus time and money. And some of our ideas just don’t come out the way we imagine them. But hey, we hope this video will show that we’re not only listening to your questions and suggestions, but also that we appreciate them. Having such an enthusiastic crowd supporting our work is pretty much the best. We look forward to reading your comments, debates and constructive suggestions. Thanks again for everything!

Here’s a few “look & feel” concepts for Downtown and the Barrens, plus some early character designs. The artists are having a blast with this stuff and can’t wait to show you some concepts of the game view itself. . . when they’re ready, of course! If I try to steal any more art from them right now they might revoke my blogging priv-
