IMG Reviews Moto Racer 15th Anniversary
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of Moto Racer 15th Anniversary from Anuman Interactive. The game features "the best circuits of the motorcycle racing series in high definition", three difficulty levels, three game modes, and a choice of four camera angles.

Here's an excerpt:

When playing the three different modes, I definitely could see the appeal of the original game. Hugging the apexes with AI opponents alongside, through the mountainous regions as well as the arid desert maps, is a blast in the GP Motorcycle mode. In Super Cross mode players encounter a number of obstacles which, depending on how they control their speed, can work both to their advantage and disadvantage. The last mode is Freestyle, a Lone Wolf option which gives players a chance to exercise tricks on the indoor dirt tracks. It's sort of like a one man Crusty Demons Extreme Stunts show. By executing the right moves while airborne, players can thrash their AI opponent's stunt point score.

Divinity: Dragon Commander Previewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Examiner has posted a new preview of Divinity: Dragon Commander from Larian Studios. The fantasy based strategy title puts players in the role of a young dragon knight who must fight for the survival of his land when his father, the king, is murdered.

The single player campaign is rife with interesting characters and political intrigue. There are two main religions: The One God religion (the new religion) and the Seven Gods religion (the religion that the protagonist belongs to). As a commander, there are a myriad of choices that you must make that not only affect how the other races view you, but affects what type of strategy cards you can garner. The strategy cards are special buffs that you can use prior to engaging in an actual battle. There are five races that you will encounter: elves, dwarfs, imps, lizards, and undead. Each of the choices you make will affect how each of the factions view you. In addition, each faction sports a beautiful princess that you can choose to marry.

Max Schaefer Discusses Torchlight II
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

I.Eat.Games has posted a lengthy new interview with Runic's Max Schaefer about the company's upcoming actiion RPG sequel, Torchlight II. The developer touched on a variety of subjects such as how the Diablo III release affects Torchlight II, whether or not there will ever be a Torchlight MMO, and if its possible for the market to reach a saturation point for action RPGs.

With the success of the Torchlight series, Diablo 3 and the popular ARPG KickStarter projects like Path of Exile and Grim Dawn, it seems to be a renaissance for ARPGs. Do you think the interest has always been there? And do you think the market is at risk of becoming overly saturated?

I don’t think so at all. For a decided simple game, ARPGs are actually very complicated to create. I think that’s why there aren’t a lot of them. I don’t think it’s based on the market at all, because whenever they do come out they sell like hotcakes. Look at Diablo 3. It’s the fastest selling game on all time on the PC. It’s a fertile market and I don’t think one or two titles are going to saturate it.

There are so many FPS out there and no one thinks that genre is dead. Every one that’s good sells like crazy. We’re pretty confident that provided we can keep our quality up, there are more buyers than there are games in this genre.

Also it’s been 10 years since the release of a Diablo game, and I think there’s a new generation of people to introduce to the genre. Again this is where Diablo 3 can help us. They’re bringing in so many new people to the genre, and so many kids are now of gamer age. We have a whole new generation to introduce to ARPGs. No one ever leaves games, once you’ve started playing games they become part of your life and you play forever. We’re just getting more and more gamers as time goes on and since there has been such a huge gap in ARPGs, its a very fertile field to plow right now.

New Civilization Update Coming Soon
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Aspyr Media recently announced that a new patch will soon be available for the Mac version of Civilization V. The update will come with the release of the Gods and Kings expansion for the world building strategy title.

With the upcoming release of Gods and Kings for the Mac, there will also be a patch released for the Civilization V Base and Campaign Edition of the game. A known issue is that this patch is not fully compatible with previous save games. You will probably still be able to load your save, but some of the civs and units might end up swapped when you load it.
