Drox Operative Challenges Await
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Soldak Entertainment has published more new information about features in the upcoming Drox Operative starship action RPG. The update this time offers details about the new challenges feature. Drox Operative will put players in the role of an elite starship captain and will feature warring alien races, fierce space battles, a dynamic and evolving galaxy, and co-op multiplayer.

We've recently added a new feature called challenges that I think is going to be really interesting for players. Essentially challenges are special sectors that are tougher than normal, have a specific setup (not random), and do many things that can't normally happen.

How it works is every 6 levels there is another challenge sector, and one extra at level 100, for a total of 17 challenges. This is visually represented as 4 sectors per quadrant and 1 final challenge for the galaxy on the challenges screen. When you beat one, the next one unlocks and you can play any unlocked challenge sector whenever you want. Each challenge has a title and a short description to give you a little glimpse of what you will be facing in that challenge.

The big difference between a challenge sector and a normal sector is that the initial conditions are hand crafted instead of being random. They have a set level, sector size, races present, quests, wars, alliances, and even sector modifiers. This seems a little strange for a game that has so much randomness in it, however they create a cool, shared experience. It always starts out the same, but the random events and the players' actions will quickly make an impact. Then everyone can compare how their challenges went. It will be interesting to see how varied the end results will be and what the players decided to do.

IMG Reviews Out Of The Park Baseball 13
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of OOTP Developments' Out of the Park Baseball 13. The latest edition of the popular baseball simulation features 2012 rosters, real-time simulation mode, interactive storylines, league assocations, expanded playoff modes, improved online league play, a redesigned interface, and core engine improvements.

Here's an excerpt:

In addition to up-to-date rosters as of the start of the 2012 baseball season, OOTP13 adds a couple of interesting gameplay options. One is called Random Debut Historical League Mode; in this league, you can start at any point in major league history and the rosters and/or draft pool will be filled with a random selection of players from throughout baseball history, all coming in at their appropriate debut ages. This can make for the creation of a fun, hybrid team, with players from all over baseball history working together. A warning, it might not work out as well as you expect. And donít expect to be able to put all your favorite players together on a team; remember itís a random selection. Still, this mode definitely adds a new and fun method of play and is of course endlessly re-playable as youíll get different players each time.
