Darkness II Coming This March To Macs
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

2K Games' Darkness II will be making its way to Macs this March. The first person shooter draws on the horror genre to add chills to the tried and true action formula. The game is inspired by the comic book series from Top Cow Productions, putting players in the role of Jackie Estacado, a man who must come to grips with his destructive powers to stay alive.

Inspired by the popular comic book series produced by Top Cow Productions, Inc., The Darkness II is an intense first person shooter that delivers a twisted and gripping narrative of tragedy, modern crime drama, and supernatural horror.

Players will be taken down the brutal and personal path of Jackie Estacado, head of a New York crime family and wielder of an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction known as The Darkness.

It’s been two years since Jackie Estacado used The Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. He’s been unable to shake the memory of Jenny’s death since bottling up his supernatural power and now The Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack by a mysterious organization known as the Brotherhood heralds the start of a full-scale war and opens the door for The Darkness to reemerge, setting Jackie on a journey to hell and worse.

Key Features:

  • 4-Player Co-op Campaign - Play as one of four unique characters each capable of wielding weapons infused with Darkness powers.
  • Quad-Wielding Chaos - Slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with the Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons, adding a new dimension to the FPS category.
  • Harness an Unstoppable Power - Master the Demon Arms and summon the powers of The Darkness for even more explosive gameplay.
  • Kill the Lights - The vicious powers of The Darkness manifest only in the shadows so use the environment to your advantage and watch out for enemies who will use light as a weapon.

New Gratutious Tank Battles Video Available
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Positech Games has released a new video for the upcoming Gratuitous Tank Battles, offering insight into the building of the indie title. The upcoming new title is described as a hybrid of real time strategy and tower defense, featuring online elements, customizable units, and a built-in map editor for custom creations.

Gratuitous Tank Battles is coming to the PC and Mac, developed by Positech Games, makers of Democracy, Kudos and of course Gratuitous Space Battles. Gratuitous Tank Battles is an RTS/Tower Defense hybrid with online elements and customisable units. The player can take the role of the defender or the attacker in a series of top-down explodey battles. A built-in map editor will allow easy sharing of custom maps and defensive challenges with other GTB players in a similar fashion to GSB's challenge system.

GTB takes place in an alternate reality where the 'central powers' never surrender and the 'great war' continues for two hundred years. Soldiers still fight in the trenches of the Somme, although rifles have (mostly) become laser rifles and giant armored mechs stride across no-mans land. The two great armies continue to fight with patriotic zeal and little memory of who Franz Ferdinand was and what happened to him. One thing is certain: It will all be over by Christmas 2114.

IMG Previews Diablo III
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has published a new preview of Blizzard Entertainment's upcoming Diablo III. The eagerly anticipated title will return players to the war torn world of Sanctuary, where they must once again take up arms against the forces of hell.

A snippet from the preview:

I prefer my Diablo single player but of course I wanted to give co-op a try. You can have up to four people per session and it turns out it's actually rather fun. In Diablo 2 I found multiplayer actually decreased my level of enjoyment, largely because everyone fought over XP and loot. D3 cleverly takes care of this by automatically sharing experience to everyone nearby, even if you didn't kill the monster yourself. And concerning loot, what you see on the screen is for you and you only. That's right, everyone in the game gets individual loot drops no one else can see. It's brilliant and keeps things flowing along nicely. Of course, you can trade with characters as you like at any time, or put things up in the auction house. Overall, it changes the multiplayer to true co-op rather than competition, and for me it's a welcome change.
