Unstoppable Gorg For Mac Announced
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment
Futuremark Games Studio has announced that its new tower defense game, Unstoppable Gorg will be available January 19 for Mac and Windows PCs. The title challenge players to defend the solar system from fearsome aliens by sending satellites into orbit. In Unstoppable Gorg gamers move towers by rotating the orbits that surround planets, moons and space stations.
Unstoppable Gorg is a lovingly crafted homage to vintage sci-fi films from the 1950s. Flying saucers, rubbery aliens, dodgy effects, it's got them all. The game's story scenes were shot on film using models, miniatures and live action actors and then edited together with genuine archive footage to create a classic sci-fi experience that is out of this world.Learn more at the link below.
Unstoppable Gorg Trailer
The aim of the game is to defend the space station in the middle from the Gorg. The station has three circular orbits shown in light grey, and each orbit has a number of "slots", shown as grey discs, where you can place satellites. At the edges of the screen are two motherships that release waves of attacking aliens. The aliens follow glowing paths which help you anticipate and plan your defenses. You can rotate an orbit at any time to reposition the satellites. When you rotate an orbit, each satellite's range indicator appears to help you pick the best position for covering the alien paths.
Don't you think it is kind of stupid how the creeps just walk the path waiting to be killed in other tower defense games? In Unstoppable Gorg, the aliens fight back with missiles and space rays! Your satellites take damage and choosing between spending money on new satellites, upgrades or repairs is one of the tactical decisions you need to make. Our artists are designing the effects to recreate the vintage sci-fi film feel. The big explosion in this image is a good example of that - the inspiration came from watching classic films such as Earth vs The Flying Saucers.
Unstoppable Gorg does away with the XY grid layout used in other tower defense games. Instead, a level typically has a space station in the middle surrounded by a number of concentric orbital rings. Each of these orbits has a number of positions where you place your satellites. This orbital layout is unique to Unstoppable Gorg.
Unlike other tower defense games, in Unstoppable Gorg you can move your satellites even after you place them by rotating each orbit. This ability lets you react to each new wave, repositioning each ring of satellites to create the best defense against each attack. Rotating an orbit is as easy as dragging your mouse or finger and makes the game much more interactive than other tower defense games.
All game assets are true 3D models rather than the sprites used in other tower defense games. Using 3D instead of sprites also means we can have more fun with animation, lighting and effects. Although our Gamescom demo level is played on a 2D plane, we can move game objects and the camera anywhere in the game space if needed.
PROTECT our solar system from the Gorg in a thrilling space defense game
SATELLITES in orbit replace the towers and grid layout used in other TD games
MOVE satellites around their orbits to create the best defense for each wave
GLORIOUS 3D graphics for added impact, not a sprite in sight
AUTHENTIC homage to the sci-fi films of the 1940s and 50s
