Shadow Of A Soul: Chapter 1 Announced
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Vivec Entertainment has announced plans for a Halloween 2012 release of the company's first game, Shadow of a Soul: Chapter I. The first-person survival horror game promises to "immerse the player in a story rich in riddles, enigmas and terrifying horrors." The game is the first in a planned trilogy which will feature a traditional adventure game experience requiring players to solve puzzles, search for clues, and uncover mysteries while hiding from various ghostly manifestations.

Chapter I's story revolves around a thief named Jack who is on an industrial espionage mission to steal the blueprints of a new product. However, as he makes his way into the office complex, he discovers that there's much more to this place than meets the eye. As unnatural sounds and horrifying visions begins to unravel before his eyes, Jack begins to have the unnerving feeling that he has become the target of a malignant presence and he isn't allowed to leave ... just yet. Jack's terrifying journey will lead him to several mysterious encounters that will leave their marks on his mind as well as his flesh.

"For me, Shadow of a Soul is all about creating the creepiest, and most shocking, gaming experience. The goal of Chapter 1 is to dig the foundations for the following two chapters while telling a satisfying story in its own right. I've been blogging every day about the development of the game and I'll continue to do so until the release date. I invite everyone to check out the company blog (http://vivec3d.com/blog/) to find out how the development is going, and everyone's more than welcome to contribute their 2 cents," says Ferzan Kanat Aygen, CEO of Vivec Entertainment.

In the first trailer, The Room, we are witnesses to the confusion and horror faced by a man as he records his final moments on tape.

SOAS: Chapter 1 has been in development for over a year and contains between 12-16 hours of game play.

Shadow of a Soul: Chapter 1 will retail for $19.99 (USD). It is currently in development for Mac and Windows platforms, with a PS3 version promised for 2013.

Blizzard Celebrates The Holidays With Diablo Themed Card
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has added a new holiday card to its collection of game themed artwork released over the years. This time Diablo III's Witch Doctor class takes the stage as a decidely non-traditional holiday figure.

Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen.

Diablo III will feature a custom 3D-graphics engine to render lush indoor and outdoor areas of Sanctuary with a high level of detail and vivid special effects. The game’s physics-enhanced environments will be interactive and destructible, offering traps and obstacles that create added danger for players and monsters alike. These elements, along with a new quest system and random scripted events, will be integrated into the game’s random-level generator, giving Diablo III the ultimate combination of dynamic gameplay and replayability. Cooperative and competitive play will be available online through an upgraded version of Blizzard Entertainment’s renowned online gaming service, Battle.net.

Design An Armor Set For Torchlight II
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Runic Games has announced a new art contest for talented fans of the company's upcoming action RPG, Torchlight II. Entrants in the contest will compete for the chance to have their armor design featured in the game. In addition to a variety of monster types to slay and items to gather the sequel will introduce cooperative multiplayer action, a new user interface, and random dungeons.

As part of our Christmas fun, we're excited to announce a Winter Contest for our community. We know there are lots of talented artists among our forums. You've shared some of your work with us, and your creativity is fantastic! Well, how'd you like the opportunity to design a full armor set for Torchlight II? Now's your chance! Below are the rules from Art Director Jason Beck. We can't wait to see your work. Happy sketching over the holidays!

  1. What do you win?

    • One winning armor set design will be chosen to be modeled, textured and put into Torchlight II as a Unique Armor Set!
    • The creator of the winning armor set will also receive a Torchlight II poster signed by the team.

  2. Is there only one winning armor set?

    • Yes. Only one armor set will be modeled and put into the game.
    • We may choose some Honorable Mentions that will receive a Torchlight II poster signed by the team.

  3. What is the best way to draw an armor set?

    • A 'paperdoll' with both front, back, and either profile or 3/4 views are our preferences, but you can submit it as more of an illustrative piece.
    • While we will accept any type of illustration it is important to note that this is not a 'who can render armor the most beautifully' contest... it is a 'design contest', so even if the art is line work with flat colors we will consider it. In the end, the best design will win, not necessarily the prettiest picture.
