Drox Operative Lithosoid And Fringe Races Revealed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Soldak Entertainment has published more new information about features in the upcoming Drox Operative starship action RPG. The update this time covers the Lithosoid and Fringe, two more of the thirteen races players will encounter during their travels in the game. Drox Operative will put players in the role of an elite starship captain and will feature warring alien races, fierce space battles, a dynamic and evolving galaxy, and co-op multiplayer.

In the galaxy where Drox Operative takes place there are 13 different races. Ten of these races are fairly diplomatic. They will at least pretend to listen before they try to eradicate the other races on the way to galatic domination. The other three? They are pretty much hostile to all life for one reason or another. The following may contain small spoilers.

6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Valve recently announced the second annual holiday-themed "Australian Christmas" update for Team Fortress 2, featuring two class packs for the Engineer and Pyro, 14 new holiday themed items, and a new five-cap control point map.

The Australian Christmas update features two retro-futuristic "Dr. Grordbort" class packs for the Engineer and Pyro, designed by Weta Workshop's Greg Broadmore.

In addition to the class packs, the update will also ship 14 new holiday-themed weapons, hats and cosmetic items by the TF community's item creators, using the Steam Workshop. "CP_Foundry," a new five-cap control point map designed by Valve's TF2 team, comes with 12 map-specific achievements.

As part of the holiday celebration, over 50 items in the Mann Co. in-game store will be on sale for up to 75% until January 2nd, 2012. Additionally, the in-game item drop rate will be doubled for the first week of the event.

Team Fortress 2 is a free-to-play team-based first-person shooter that PC Gamer called "the most fun you can have online." With a growing community of players and item-creators, TF2 is more popular now than ever.

Sid Meier Discusses The Past, Present, And Future Of Gaming
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

IndustryGamers has posted a new interview with legendary game designer Sid Meier, creator of popular titles such as the Civilization series. The interview covers a variety of topics including Meier's early years, the state of console and PC gaming, and the future of the game industry.

IG: What's your prediction for the next 10 or 20 years for the game industry? Artistically, technically, and financially? Is gaming really going to become as ubiquitous a medium as television?

SM: I’ve always claimed that games will someday take over the world and from where things sit today, that seems to be happening. Artistically, games will continue to improve and become more life-like and technically we’ve already seen games advance to levels we wouldn’t have dreamed of when I started making games more than 30 years ago. I’d like to think games will continue to grow and become a larger form of entertainment. Already, we’ve seen games infiltrate the social space, on smartphones and social networks, so it only seems natural that that progression will continue into the future.

The Music Of Mafia II
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

A new post on Aspyr's GameAgent blog focuses on the music of Mafia II: Director's Cut. Recently released for Mac by Feral Interactive, the game is a specially-created package that includes the standalone version of Mafia II and all of the game's previously released add-on packs and downloadable content.

Now that Mafia II Director’s Cut has released for Mac, we want you to plunge into an era that is the foundation for Mafia II. Playing as Vito, you are completely immersed into the world of organized crime in the 1940s –50s. One of the significant features of Mafia II is the soundtrack, which includes famous musicians of that time. The songs that play are, for the most part, random, but some are queued to match the mood and storyline of the game. So, whether you’re in a lifted car or a house with a radio, you can choose from 3 stations that play various genres of music.
