IMG Reviews The Sims Medieval Pirates & Nobles
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of EA's The Sims Medieval: Pirates & Nobles. The expansion introduces a variety of new quests, new treasure hunting options, and a host of new pirate and nobility themed items to the game.

Here's an excerpt:

The Sims Medieval: Pirates & Nobles (PnN) has few new elements, it's not long at all, and it plays exactly the same. The additions are mainly in the areas of wardrobe and new items, although there is one new gameplay element. You can now go on treasure hunts. This sadly isn't as awesome as it sounds, as it's mainly just popping from place to place following a map to get items that aren't really better than what your blacksmith can make. In the end, you'll likely find yourself ignoring this entirely.

There is a new chain of missions, though, and those give you a little more time to spend. However, like with all the missions, there's no real reason to pursue them again once you've done them once. They are of similar quality to the rest of the quests in The Sims Medieval, which is pretty good quality overall. It's just that they'll be over a lot faster than you'll expect, given that they're the meat of this full-priced expansion.

Portal 2 Puzzle Creator Sneak Peek
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Valve recently offered a sneak peek of the puzzle creator tools planned for an upcoming free add-on for Portal 2. Scheduled for release early next year, the update will feature an easy-to-use in-game map editor that will let users design, build and share their own single-player and co-op test chambers with the community, who will be able to view, play and vote on them with a simple click.

The simplified puzzle creator will let players easily carve out their creations in a straightforward but powerful way. They'll then be able to immediately upload those levels to their Steam Cloud and share them with other players online. We're also building a community site to host all of these player-created puzzles. The site will allow players to quickly find new puzzles and add them to their game, ready to play, with a single click. Players will then be able to rate the puzzles they've played, leave comments for puzzle creators, and follow creators they like.

We're positive there are a ton of great puzzle designers just waiting for the right tools, and we're working hard to tap into all that creativity. We'll keep you posted as we continue to make progress with the update. For now, here are some screenshots of the puzzle creator to get the ideas flowing.
