Steve Jobs Passes Away
7:44 AM | Tuncer Deniz | 2 comments

Yesterday Steve Jobs left us but not without imprinting into our DNA a passion and love for a company and a man who dared to think different. Back in 1993 I started Inside Mac Games because I loved Macs and at the time, no one was covering Macintosh games. How times have changed. Now we game on our Macs, on our iPhones, and on our iPads. All thanks to one man, SJ.

I saw him many times at the Macworld Expo keynotes and always was in awe when Steve talked. If anything, that's what I'll remember the most. The man knew how to "deliver" like no other person...maybe ever.

Yes, we will miss him. Yes, things will never be the same. But Steve would have wanted us to let this pass. This too shall pass. But let us never forget.

IMG's single biggest traffic day was the day we posted a small interview with Steve Jobs. It was, without a doubt, the proudest day of my career in Mac gaming. Please be sure to check it out and remember Steve today for what he was....a great man.

Diablo III Item Database Unveiled
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment recently revealed an item database for its upcoming action RPG sequel, Diablo III. The database gives eager gamers the chance to check out some of the items players may find while playing. The game will allow players to revisit the world of Sanctuary where they must once again take up arms against the demonic forces threatening humanity.

Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen.

Diablo III will feature a custom 3D-graphics engine to render lush indoor and outdoor areas of Sanctuary with a high level of detail and vivid special effects. The game’s physics-enhanced environments will be interactive and destructible, offering traps and obstacles that create added danger for players and monsters alike. These elements, along with a new quest system and random scripted events, will be integrated into the game’s random-level generator, giving Diablo III the ultimate combination of dynamic gameplay and replayability. Cooperative and competitive play will be available online through an upgraded version of Blizzard Entertainment’s renowned online gaming service, Battle.net.

Nuclear Dawn Reviewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

Strategy Informer has posted a new review of Iceberg Interactive's Nuclear Dawn. The game combines first person shooter and real time strategy gameplay, allowing players to take the role of soldiers in a war-torn post-apocalyptic world. SI gave the game a score of 7.8 out of 10.

From the review:

By and large these games have been single player focused. But what if there was one where every unit was controlled by real players while another player handles the real time strategy elements? That’s the question that developer InterWave Studio asks with Nuclear Dawn.

A typical match starts out with a Commander for each of the two sides being randomly chosen while the remaining players become ground troops. The Commander controls all the RTS elements like base building and upgrades from a bird’s eye view. The ground troops play in a typical class-based FPS manner though they are responsible for capturing currency generating resource points.
