Diablo III Class Resource Details Unveiled
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has updated its new Diablo III community site with a class resource list that details the sources each character class can tap into to activate their abilities. The list includes Fury, Hatred, Discipline, Spirit, Mana, and Arcane.

Barbarian: Unleashing the Fury
Barbarians are battle-hardened, close-combat warriors. To that end, they use Fury as their resource to unleash devastating melee attacks against their foes. Fury is gained whenever the barbarian lands a successful attack, as well as when he or she is struck by an opponent. This resource depletes over time whenever the barbarian isn’t fighting, so you’ll generally want to make sure you’re at the forefront of the action, building up Fury to use stronger abilities. Fury is also gained steadily with attacks such as Bash and Cleave, while larger bursts of Fury can be generated by mighty abilities such as Leap Attack and Ground Stomp. Meanwhile, Fury-consuming abilities range from more defense-oriented skills like Threatening Shout, which reduces the damage of nearby enemies, to deadly attacks like Whirlwind, which continuously does massive damage as long as Fury persists. By managing both Fury generation and use, the barbarian can become the most brutal melee hero on the battlefield.

Frozen Synapse Reviewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Macworld has posted a new review of Frozen Synapse, a turn based tactical game from Mode 7 Games. The game features both single and multiplayer action, a variety of guns, hand crafted maps, and a map editor. Macworld gave Frozen Synapse a score of 4 out of 5 mice.

From the review:

The ideal way to experience Frozen Synapse is to start multiple games, play a turn in one, hop to the next one that requires your attention, then hop back, and so on. This way the game is still methodical, but you always have something to do while your opponent is figuring out his next move. In some situations, it might be several hours before you get to play the next turn in a particular match. This might sound odd, but it’s not an issue if you're approaching this game with the appropriate mindset. You have many other players and a lengthy single player campaign to keep you busy until then, and once you’re familiar with the mechanics you never feel lost when you’re dropped back into an ongoing match, even if it’s been days since your last turn.

It’s a unique experience first and foremost because of the deep and infinitely repayable tactical gameplay, but almost equally impressive is the smooth, user-friendly networking infrastructure which fosters the online competition that is the heart of the game.

Two Worlds II: Pirates Of The Flying Fortress Previewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Platform Nation has released a new preview of TopWare's upcoming Pirates of The Flying Fortress, a new expansion scheduled to be released later this year for Two Worlds II. The fantasy RPG add-on will take players into the "gloomy pirate world" and will feature thunder and rain storms, new weapons, impact oriented horse armor, and all new boss encounters.

I was shown an extensive demo, including a handful of levels. The one I was most struck by was a “Fragmented Dream” world that had beautiful Sepia tones and a slightly altered camera view. The dream world was striking visually, and I was told it was a large part of “Pirates Of the Flying Fortress’s” plot. This expansion really looks to serve TW2?s world well, as everything I was shown looked very different from the general fantasy vibe of the first and second games. That’s not to say that it doesn’t fit well into the TW2 universe, but it will do a superb job of opening up new avenues, and allowing for what feels like natural progression of the TW2 universe.
