IMG Reviews Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 5 comments

Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of Ubisoft's Assassinís Creed 2: Deluxe Edition. The game introduces an epic story of vengeance in Renaissance Italy which places gamers in the role of legendary assassin Ezio, a man on a mission to eliminate the Borgia menace.

Here's an excerpt from the review:

Eventually you will be able to recruit oppressed civilians into your cause as novice assassins. The more Borgia towers you remove, the more recruits you can have, for a total of 10. Each assassin can be leveled up by helping you in fights, or being sent off on missions to gain experience and gold. You can add to their weapons and armor, and eventually they can reach the full rank of Assassin. It's a fun, but light RPG mechanic. After you get 2 recruits or more, you gain assassin tokens, which you can use to target and call in your men to attack guards or anything in the way. With 6 recruits or more, you gain an Arrow storm ability, which can rain death upon any enemies in the area. The tokens have to recharge after every use, and arrow storm drains them all at once. The weapon and armor upgrades reflect in combat, you can even choose the color of their clothing. It's thrilling the first time you see other assassins join the fray, and it remains a useful mechanic throughout the game.

Soldak Blog: Unique Races Vie For Power
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

A new Soldak Entertainment blog post offers a discussion of the features of the alien races to be featured in its upcoming sci-fi game. Each race will explore, colonize, and conquer planets in the galaxy according to their own unique racial personalities.

Soldak's as yet untitled game is described as "Master of Orion from a mercenary captain's point of view." It will place players in a dynamic galaxy and give them to the chance to build their fortune and influence the balance of power between opposing races.

At the very beginning they only know about their home planet so they must send scout ships out to find where the best planets are to colonize and to locate potential enemies. Once they find good planets they build and send a colony ship to colonize the planet. Once colonized, the planet starts generating resources for the race that controls it.

Eventually the races will run into one another and they will start to talk. Considering that they all have the same goal of taking over the entire region, diplomacy can only go so far. They can and do trade and forge alliances, but battles and wars are common.

All of the races know that war is most likely inevitable so they will build fleets of ships to protect their colonized planets. When ready they will also build fleets of ships and attack their enemies.
