IMG Reviews The Tiny Bang Story
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of Colibri Games' The Tiny Bang Story. The game challenges players to repair Tiny Planet, a world damaged by an asteroid strike. To succeed they must explore the world's colorful locations and solve a variety of puzzles.

Here's an excerpt from the review:

The environment of Tiny Bang Story is very interactive. Moving the cursor on the screen will cause strings to sway and bugs to skitter away. Clicking on objects will often reveal a task, cause some effect, or open an area to search for items. Also, after completing certain tasks, the environment changes, new objects appear, doors become unlocked, and so forth.

It is important to point out that this game is a real work of art. The combination of the scenery, the machinations and objects and colors in the scenes, and the powerful and very melodios music track makes you feel you are not just playing a game, but experiencing a truly wonderful piece of art

EVE Online Incarna Coming Today
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

CCP Games has announced today as the release date for the Incarna expansion for its sci-fi MMO, EVE Online. Among other things the update includes Captain's Quarters, the first chance for players to see their characters outside the confines of a spacecraft.

Incarna represents an entirely new aspect of EVE, providing pilots with their first steps outside of the spaceships that have stalked the constellations of the EVE universe for over eight years.

The first iteration, fittingly named Incarna 1.0, brings the Captain's Quarters to each station. The Captain's Quarters are a seat of power, a hub of information and a quiet sanctuary for a pilot looking to relax a bit. A quick walthrough video can be found on the website. Incarna will grow over time, adding new versions of the Captain's Quarters and then establishments and beyond.

Incarna also brings a fresh beginning for a new player's experience, as we've remade it into a "New New Player Experience" and worked hard to smooth out the learning curve. It is now easier than ever to try EVE Online--an even more immersive experience is in store for those curious about jumping in the deepest MMO on the market.

Soldak Blog: Spaceship Attributes & Crew
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

A new Soldak Entertainment blog post offers a discussion of gameplay mechanics for spaceship attributes and crew bonuses for its upcoming sci-fi game.

Soldak's as yet untitled game is described as "Master of Orion from a mercenary captain's point of view." It will place players in a dynamic galaxy and give them to the chance to build their fortune and influence the balance of power between opposing races.

This is going to end up being different than fantasy games. In a fantasy game you usually have a specific class and then you focus on one or a few attributes that are best for that class and for the most part ignore the rest. For example a warrior would usually focus on strength, vitality, and dexterity while a mage would focus on intelligence. In this game while you might focus on a few attributes, you probably won't be able to ignore any of them.

You can also have named crew that further boost your "attributes". These crew are basically your officers. Since they are in addition to your normal crew you must have somewhere to put them so to be working they take up an equipment slot. You can have standby crew in your normal inventory but you won't be getting any active benefit from them. Also since these are actual beings not just cargo you can't just store them in a stash somewhere. They must be in your ship, so one way or another they are taking up a slot. This is going to make them a bit harder to get a hold of then ship components.
