Portal 2 TV Ad Trailer Released
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Valve has released a new video of its upcoming television commercial for Portal 2. The clip of the action puzzler features Atlas, P-body, and the voice of GLaDOS. Scheduled for an April 18 release, the game will include both single and multiplayer first person puzzle solving and will continue the storyline from the first game.

Portal 2 will see players introduced to a host of fresh puzzles, devious new test chambers in never-before-seen areas of Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion from the original Portal.

Features single and multiplayer co-op modes. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game's two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.

Quake Live Updated
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 2 comments

id Software recently announced a new update for Quake Live, the company's browser based first person shooter. Among other things the update includes 2 new premium arenas, the ability to assign your own country flag, and tier info displays on player profiles.

Premium Maps Added:
  • Toxicity (Duel):
Created by Alexander Mader, Toxicity is an enclosed Duel map with a distinctive look. Twisting halls and teleporters provide ample escape, as long as you watch out for the namesake pools of toxic acid in the main rooms of this arena. Own the world, or at least your opponent, and spread disorder by knocking them around with some rockets. Bounce them well, and you can treat yourself to a Red Armor, while they suffer some unfortunate burns.

  • Distant Screams (CTF):
Formerly known as the perennial favorite Silent Night, we've torn down the Christmas decorations as to not look like that weird house down the street lit up well into March. Thankfully, it hasn't warmed up enough to melt the ice that covers vast swathes of the level, allowing massive acceleration throughout the frozen tundra terrain. Everything else is still mostly as you remember it, from the grenade traps to the secret button that dispenses health. Wait, that's supposed to be a secret...
Game Changes:
  • Kill Beep for Premium players:
Enabling cg_killBeep will play a distinct sound when you score a kill in any mode. Options are available in the in-game Game Options->Advanced->Sound Options menu.
  • Increased size of hit cylinders:
Increased hittable region of players by 10% to more closely mimic the area of the old cuboid region.
  • Increased damage of Shotgun in Team Deathmatch:
Increased damage of Shotgun back to 100 to match the Shotgun in other modes.
  • Improved arena download system:
Download size for Standard players reduced by about 50% by not downloading premium content until the player joins a server running the arena. This also means these maps will be unavailable in Practice mode for Standard users. Premium and Pro users will still download all content as they did before.

More Diablo III Facebook Screenshots Unveiled
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment recently revealed another new screenshot and piece of concept art to celebrate the 675,000 Likes milestone on its official Diablo III Facebook page. The game will allow players to revisit the world of Sanctuary where they must once again take up arms against the demonic forces threatening humanity.

Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen.

Diablo III will feature a custom 3D-graphics engine to render lush indoor and outdoor areas of Sanctuary with a high level of detail and vivid special effects. The game’s physics-enhanced environments will be interactive and destructible, offering traps and obstacles that create added danger for players and monsters alike. These elements, along with a new quest system and random scripted events, will be integrated into the game’s random-level generator, giving Diablo III the ultimate combination of dynamic gameplay and replayability. Cooperative and competitive play will be available online through an upgraded version of Blizzard Entertainment’s renowned online gaming service, Battle.net.
