IMG Review RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum from Aspyr Media. The Platinum collection of the theme park sim includes RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Soaked, and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Wild.

Here's an excerpt from the review:

With the two expansion packs installed together, Platinum turns RCT3 into an even more rounded game than it was before, but without compromising its familiar interface. The new resources are highlighted by the use of icons to tell you which expansion pack provides them, but the new features are otherwise integrated seamlessly into the existing game structure. In other words, there's not all that much that's new for existing players to learn, and that's a good thing: the interface is slightly refined and extended, but remains essentially the same as it was before.

Wakfu Previewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Ten Ton Hammer recently posted a new preview of the upcoming Wakfu, a new tactical MMO from Ankama. Taking place in the same world of the flash based Dofus, although far in the future from the events of the original game, Wakfu will feature a cartoon based visual style and an environment which responds to player actions.

Taking on opponents in Wakfu is an experience I've never before seen in an MMOG, as it is entirely turn-based. Although many other MMOGs have a round-based combat system, they uniformly obscure it with layers of complexity and a timer that goes by so quickly that you barely notice its passing. This is not the case at all in Wakfu, where you are given an almost infinite amount of time in which to plan your strategies, and act. However, if you do manage to learn your abilities well and execute your commands swiftly, you will be rewarded! The timer on the right shows how much you will fill the bar on the far right, and filling the bar on the far right will unlock an extra bonus. The longer you take on a turn, the less the bar fills.

This balancing act of strategy and speed strikes a very rewarding balance in solo play. I'm unsure how it stacks up in group situations, as I have yet to experience the multiplayer aspect of combat in Wakfu.
