Two Worlds II Discussed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Gamingbits has posted a new interview with Aubrey Norris from Southpeak Games about Two Worlds II, the upcoming RPG. The Q&A included answers to questions about the game's features and engine. Two Worlds II will send players to the unexplored land of Eastern Antaloor and will feature detailed graphics, an active combat system, and a complex storyline.

What are some of the first things that come to mind on what players can only experience in Two Worlds II?

The very first things that jump out at me are the incredibly deep spell creation and crafting systems. Any item you pick up, whether weapon or armor, can be deconstructed into its basic raw materials (e.g. Steel, iron, wood, etc.) and then used to upgrade your existing equipment. This unlocks slots for magical crystals that give a huge range of benefits like elemental damage, skill bonuses, stat bonuses, etc. On top of that, for players who are big into the online multiplayer side of Two Worlds II and form their own guilds, equipment can be custom dyed with guild colors.

The spell system is based on cards and amulets. Each combination of a set elemental card (for example, Ice, Poison or Power) and a set action card (for example, Missile, Summon or Trap) within an amulet will produce a ridiculous range of spell possibilities. On top of those basic things, other aspects of each spell can be customized, such as adding a homing component, a ricochet component, adding a damage over time effect, etc. And, if you thought that wasn’t enough, some amulets allow you to build linked spells, so that you could, for example, set a frost trap which will do 2000 damage upon being triggered and then summon a gigantic hell warrior to smite enemies and induce bloodshed you and then cast an AOE lightning attack. :) I love the range of possibilities!

I’m especially a big fan of the inclusion of summoned monsters for mages. If you put enough points into summoning as a mage skill, I discovered that you can literally have a horde of monsters fighting for you while you fire off AOE attacks or missiles safely from the background. ;) There’s nothing like a massive swarm of bees or (my nickname, of course) death grasshoppers to keep you safe and sound!

LambdaRogue: The Book Of Stars Comes To Macs
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

The open source RPG LambdaRogue: The Book of Stars is now available. Previously released for Windows and Linux, the Rogue-like game has been brought to the Mac OS X platform. The game features randomly generated dungeons and challenges players to find the Book of Stars and save mankind.

More information about LambdaRogue:

Mankind's Redemption ...

... is hidden in the depths of a dungeon. So say the old legends, and
so spoke the priestess.

Now you're standing here, all alone, with nothing but your weapon, a
small backpack and your skills, facing some of your greatest fears.
For hours, you've been hunted through constantly changing dungeons and
caves … chased by wild animals, by preachers of a sinister cult, and
by abhorrent spawns of the evil goddess Eris.

Finally you get some rest, regaining your psychic powers and pondering
to return to the Temple. But the safe havens of mankind are far away,
the journey back to the Temple would last longer than the way before
you. So you decide to go on, deeper and deeper, always searching for
traces of the Book.

The only book that matters these days. The Book that will set mankind
free. The Book of Stars.

'Per Libris Ad Astra', spoke the priestess to you: 'To the Stars,
Through Books.' However, this way is a dangerous way, a path through
neverending darkness.

And the evil goddess Eris is already lurking for you ...

Features:

  • Decide your own and mankind's fate – will you find the way to redemption, or will you betray mankind?
  • Dive into the dark and surreal atmosphere of mankind's last resort - explore everchanging random-generated dungeons and caves, filled with a unique set of strange enemies and hidden treasure.
  • Enjoy an epic story, covering centuries – collect traces of history and travel through time.
  • Ascend to the highest ranks of your profession – from Enchanter to Battle Mage, from Archer to Ranger, and lots more.
  • Don't bother with memorizing dozens of keys – simply enjoy your game, with the ease of LambdaRogue's intuitive interface.
