EVE Online Character Creator Avatar Shots
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

EVE Online blog Inner Sanctum of the Ninveah has posted some new screenshots depicting the upcoming character creator option for CCP Games' sci-fi MMO. The character creation system is part of the Incursion expansion for EVE Online and lays the groundwork for eventual player avatars.

Basically you get a basic form based on race and bloodline, then you can make structural modifications and hair/eyes etc. There is a lot to like but I was a little put off by the colour selector (i.e. hard to use (buggy?) and lack of options) and the clothing selection was pretty limited as well. Also, no accessories like metal implants and tatoos? Sad puppy face!

After you get your character structurally created, you go into portrait mode where you can position your character and alter their mouth for smile/sneering, eyes and head position, lighting, background, and take a set of four images and select one as your current avatar,

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Reviewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Ten Ton Hammer has posted a new review of Blizzard Entertainment's Cataclysm expansion for World of Warcraft. Cataclysm allows players to adventure as two new playable races, bring their characters to level 85, take on challenging quests and dungeons in all-new zones, and experience dramatic changes to familiar aspects of the game in the wake of a world-shattering disaster.

One of the most important is the addition of guild levels and reputation. This change makes it much more important to find and stick with a good guild and that helps reinforce the MMOG nature of the game. As an MMOG no one should really be playing solo anyway, the game is supposed to be about social interactions and this feature should help enforce that.

Another positive change for many players, although many hard core raiders are against it, is the change to the raid structure. Now both 10 and 25 player raids drop the same loot, making it easier for players to find a core group of friends to raid with. In the past there were many smaller groups that ended up having to disperse to various guilds to secure raiding slots if they wanted gear. Now with smaller raids giving the same loot, those groups of friends can stick together and enjoy the raid experience without the need to go to a 25 player raid.
