Apple Games Features Dragon Age Origins: Awakening
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Apple Games has returned to the kingdom of Ferelden for an examination of Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening. In the add-on players take on the role of Grey Warden Commander as they rebuild the order, resolve conflicts with "The Architect", and decide the fate of the darkspawn. Apple's article includes an overview of the game, comments from lead designer Mike Laidlaw, and a brief description of the downloadable content available for Origins.

Your quest involves discovering the true intentions of the mysterious antagonists known as The Architect and Mother. Like in the previous adventure, you’ll be able to recruit other characters to assist you — some of them may undergo the Joining ritual to become Grey Wardens themselves. You’ll likely remember one character from the main game: Oghren, a heavy-hitting dwarf with a penchant for ale and a fondness for saying: “Need anything pummeled? Just say the word.”

Your adventure will take you from Vigil’s Keep — where the Grey Wardens who now control Amaranthine have established a base of operations — to Blackmarsh, Wending Woods, and Dragon Bone Wastes, among other locations whose names are as foreboding as they sound. You’ll have tough choices to make along the way, so keep in mind another observation from Laidlaw: “One of the main themes in the world of Dragon Age is that there is no absolute right or absolute wrong.”

ULTIZURK IV: Lord Of The Cyclops In Final Testing
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Dr. Dungeon has announced that ULTIZURK IV: Lord of The Cyclops is in final testing. Inspired by classic RPG titles such as Ultima 7, Fallout and Baldur's Gate, the game will feature an interactive world where "practically everything is usable."

The goal was simplicity itself: To create the finest shareware role-playing game of all time! No ifs, no ands, no buts. Play-testers, the time is nigh!

ULTIZURK IV is technically the fourth in a series of old DOS games. Remember DOS? However, it starts anew at this point. The goal is to retain the classic flavor of games like Ultima 7, Fallout and Baldur’s Gate.

The DOS is gone. Everything is now elegantly and magnificently Mac! A land where practically everything is usable and interactive in some way. A rich, and somewhat haunting story set atop a detailed yet approachable role-playing system. A tangled tale that seems like an invasion in a medieval world, with characters curiously like those of our world.

CCP Games Video Displays Character Model Technology
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

CCP Games recently released a new video showcasing the "Carbon" infrastructure technology it uses in the development of its MMORPG projects. the video reveals some of the character models and animations the engine can support. CCP is the developer of EVE: Online and is currently working on a World of Darkness MMO.

Introducing Our Core Technology Platform: Carbon
The Carbon Framework is a crucial component of CCP's strategy. It is the foundation upon which our virtual worlds are built.

The technology was initially created by harvesting code from EVE Online, code that had already been hardened through years of development and real world use. We call this Battle Testing. This code has then been refined and extended to serve the needs of other CCP projects.
