IMG Reviews Torchlight

Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of Torchlight from Runic Games. The action RPG gives players the chance to choose a character and venture from the safety of the town of Torchlight into randomly generated dungeon levels.

Here's an excerpt from the review:

Torchlight, by Runic Games, is a light hearted sword & sorcery first person smacker that can truly satisfy one’s need to delve into dark caverns, search for treasure, destroy monsters, find gold, and acquire better gear. It is easy to spend hours in the caverns of Torchlight and it’s a lot of fun as well.

Torchlight is a little town positioned near the entrance of an extensive range of caverns. Within these caverns are veins of a very special material called Ember. This magical mineral can be used to infuse weapons and armor with magical abilities that greatly enhance their value and effectiveness. Trade went well for Torchlight until the day someone delved too deep and exposed something very evil. Now unusual creatures roam the mines, attacking and scaring away the miners. And so the people of Torchlight looked toward heroes to enter the mines and try to stop the madness.

LEGO Universe Previewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Examiner.com recently posted a new preview of LEGO Universe. The game will allow players to create their own custom LEGO minifigure and venture forth to combat the Maelstrom, join with friends to complete missions, and collect bricks to build imaginative creations.

But aside from many of the 'staple' elements of MMO games, LEGO Universe is more about exploration, collecting, creating, and sharing LEGO creations, not leveling-up characters and fighting through to end-game content.

As you acquire an ever-growing supply of LEGO pieces (which is limitless; there's no 'inventory' to worry about), you can use them to build LEGO models. You can use quick-build to instantly create a LEGO model, or you can use choice-build which allows you to mix and match pre-made set pieces. Or for the ultimate in customization, you can build a model brick-by-brick.

And even though the game doesn't include specifically licensed LEGO bricks (such as LEGO Star Wars), every piece used to create licensed properties exists in the game—more than 2500 different types of LEGO bricks. If you want to create a Harry Potter, Batman, or Star Wars-themed base or vehicle, for example, you can do it.
