Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills Released

ActionSoft has announced the release of Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills, sequel to the treasure hunting classic 2D platformer. In The Haunted Hills Jack Malone will face new enemies and puzzles. The game features more than 880 rooms in the built-in mansions, two bonus mansions, and a level builder for creating puzzling adventure settings.

Jack Malone is back, in his biggest adventure yet! Join Jack in his quest for treasure as he explores underground caverns, mad scientist laboratories, spooky graveyards, old abandoned castles, and more!

Outwit new enemies and solve new puzzles as you explore over 880 rooms in the built-in mansions. And when you're done, try out the two bonus mansions for even more fun! And as always, a level builder is included so you can create your mansions, or play mansions others have made.

Midnight Mansion 2 is a classic 2D platformer based on the highly successful Midnight Mansion. Reminiscent of games such as Dark Castle and Montezuma's Revenge, its simple yet engaging gameplay has won over gamers both young and old.

Requirements:
  • Any PowerPC or Intel Macintosh (Rosetta required for Intel Macs)
  • Mac OS X 10.2 or higher
  • 30 MB of free RAM
Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills is free to try and costs $25 to purchase. A Universal Binary version is under development, and will be a free upgrade for existing owners once it is released.

Tasty Planet: Back For Seconds Pre-Order Available

Dingo Games recently announced a pre-order option for Tasty Planet: Back for Seconds, the sequel to the original Tasty Planet. The company has also released a new trailer showcasing the game's two player co-op mode.

In Tasty Planet: Back for Seconds players will take control of a tiny ball of grey goo with the unique ability to eat anything smaller than itself and grow larger with each meal. Back for Seconds will feature the ability to grow as large as a galaxy within a single level, a two player cooperative campaign mode, and an increased number of objects to ingest.

The premise of Tasty Planet is simple. Players control a ball of goo with the ability to eat anything smaller than itself. As the goo eats objects it grows bigger, thereby giving it the ability to eat even larger objects. The goo could grow from the size of an ant to the size of a mountain in a single level.

Players will eat their way through six different time periods: modern, Late Cretaceous (i.e. dinosaurs), Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome, Feudal Japan, and the distant future. Each time period features a unique set of objects for the player to eat. Mice, cats, Tyrannosaurus Rex, mummies, gladiators, and flying saucers are just a few of the hundreds of objects available for consumption.

WoW Cataclysm: Death Knight Preview

Ten Ton Hammer has posted a new preview of Blizzard Entertainment's Cataclysm expansion for World of Warcraft. Cataclysm will allow players to adventure as two new playable races, bring their characters to level 85, take on challenging quests and dungeons in all-new zones, and experience dramatic changes to familiar aspects of the game in the wake of a world-shattering disaster.

Cataclysm talent trees are significantly less muddled. Most of the passive defenses have been removed from Frost and Unholy and given to Blood. Each of these trees were compensated for the loss of an active ability by receiving a powerful active damage dealing cooldown.

One of the most notable changes is the removal of some of the area of effect abilities. Wandering Plague, which is arguably the most powerful passive AoE in the game, is gone. Talents that passively increased diseases like Crypt Fever have also disappeared. This is not surprising, however, given the systematic nerfing and removal of AoE abilities that has been going on in the Cataclysm Beta.

Two Worlds II Q&A

Universal Gaming Database has posted a new interview with Jake DiGennaro about Two Worlds II, Reality Pump's upcoming RPG. The Q&A included answers to questions about the game's features and engine. Two Worlds II will send players to the unexplored land of Eastern Antaloor and will feature detailed graphics, an active combat system, and a complex storyline.

UGDB: This time around there will be a “CRAFT” system, with the possibility of creating your own weapons and armor. How will the system work and will it be possible [for example] for the player to make some IMBA equipment with lots of effort?
Jake DiGennaro: The CRAFT feature doesn't allow you to actually create new items, but rather build upon what you already have. By breaking down various pieces of equipment collected during the journey players will accumulate raw materials such as wood, steel, leather, etc. Using these materials they can upgrade other pieces of equipment improving their statistics, and opening socket slots which can be filed with various enhancement crystals further augmenting stats or giving the equipment special characteristics (i.e. weapon with bonus fire damage). In this way there is a reason to collect equipment from defeated enemies other than just for vendor loot or that hand-me-down armor shop you were planning on opening in the town square.

UGDB: We remember that in the first game, faction affiliations was a bit limited, but were interesting in many ways. How have they evolved in the sequel and can you give us some examples of such?
Jake DiGennaro: Faction ratings plays an important role in which quests will become available to the player, how various NPCs perceive the hero, and to a degree even the way the player will experience certain elements of the primary narrative. Align yourself with the Merchants Guild for instance, and while you may get a few bucks off purchases and access to some amazing "back room inventory" items not otherwise available, some groups in the game might begin to see you as a profit hungry snake who would gladly sell them out in exchange for a sack of gold.
