Warhammer Version 1.3.6 Now Available
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Mythic Entertainment recently announced the release of version 1.3.6 of its fantasy MMO, Warhammer Online. In addition to the usual fixes and balance adjustments the patch includes an alternate item appearance system, an experience bonus to outnumbered realms, and expaned selection for Sovereign Armor sets.

Warhammer Online features Realm vs Realm combat and allows players to enter a grim fantasy world where the armies of Order (Dwarves, High Elves, and Empire) and Destruction (Greenskins, Dark Elves, and Chaos) collide to determine the fate of nations.

Highlights of 1.3.6 include:

Alternate Item Appearance System
No longer do players have to sacrifice their sense of fashion in the name of better stats! To allow players options to customize their appearance players now have the option of selecting the appearance of any piece of equipment while at the same time choosing their best option for statistics.

Against All Odds
Against All Odds: A Realm outnumbered within an RvR Lake will now receive a scaling bonus to Experience, Renown and Influence based on the odds stacked against them, becoming active when a Realm is outnumbered in a specific Lake by 20% or more.

Sovereign Armor Split Sets
The Sovereign Armor sets have been redesigned! We have introduced Split armor sets, giving each Career multiple options of armor selection based on their play style. Players who already have Sovereign Armor sets will find that their armor has been replaced with the newly redesigned "Primary" sets for each Career.

Auction House Enhancements!
The Auction House UI has been updated! In order to improve the user experience, we have removed some of the least used options to provide a more simple and easy to use tool.

And much, much more!

BOH Updated
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

Independent developer Simone Bevilacqua has released an update for BOH. The retro action game of exploration challenges players to travel through trap filled corridors, solve puzzles, and defeat enemies as they quest to find and defeat the Evil Masters. BOH features more than 40 missions and 5 difficulty levels.

Update 13:

For both those who are having a great gaming time now and those who will back at their computers after the summer, here is one more massive update that takes BOH to yet another level.

More specifically, this update:
  • adds world standings: the game can send automatically the local records to a global server that keeps the real-time standings of all the players in the world who make use of this new feature;
  • adds a new tile kind: the message point, i.e. a location that reveals a message (a hint, a riddle, a part of story, etc.);
  • uses the messages points to make many missions more intriguing and to improve the tutorial missions (which have also been slightly modified for greater effectiveness);
  • adds the theme "pyramid";
  • adds 5 new missions;
  • adds the possibility of specifying a success epilogue and a failure epilogue for each phase;
  • reworks automappers: the more powerful one now covers the same area of the other one, but provides also an alternative rendering mode whereby the map reflects faithfully the actual colors of the tiles;
  • makes movements of enemies clearer;
  • allows the RM to open locked passages and exits only when facing them;
  • removes sidestepping;
  • makes [SPACE] the default automapper key;
  • makes the alignment of menu texts definable by the theme designer;
  • improves a few strings in some translations;
  • improves and updates the manuals;
  • applies various other changes.

Tidalis 1.005 Released, 'Design A Block' Contest
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Arcen Games has announced an update for Tidalis. The block based puzzle game challenges players to link chains of like colored blocks to clear the way for more blocks falling from the top of the screen. The update includes new levels and a new block style. The company has also announced a Design a Block contest to give a fans a chance to have their name listed in the game's credits.

Tidalis 1.005 Released
This official release includes a lot of new stuff for players to enjoy, a lot of it suggested by fans. It adds the new VS - Race multiplayer ruleset for use against the AI or against other players, as well as a new Boarded Up block type. It has a lot more flexibility in what fullscreen resolutions players can use, even if their graphics card/OS doesn't report a resolution that they want to use as being supported. There is also a revamped sound subsystem that lets the game load faster, play multiple copies of the same sound effect at once (which sounds much better), and which avoids some issues on OSX.

Also included are 12 new Brainteaser levels created by players, a new visual block style created by a player, and updated stream graphics that look a bit fancier. Music tracks also now fade in when starting, which is a noticeable aural improvement. Aside from the above, this release has a number of bugfixes and other, more minor player-suggested tweaks.

All in all, an exciting first bit of free DLC, both with Arcen-created content and community-created content.

Tidalis "Design A Block" Contest
For quite some time, Arcen Games has been committed to adding fan suggestions to AI War via general suggestions and our Community DLC poll in the AI War forums. In the case of Tidalis, today's new official version 1.005 of the game continues that trend by including 12 new player-created levels, several bits of player-created art, a new player-suggested VS game mode, and a number of other updates and tweaks based on player suggestions.

So what's this contest, then? Well, it's pretty simple: if you have ideas for new mechanics that you'd like to see in the game, submit them in our Tidalis Suggestions forum. We'd most like to see new block ideas, but if you have ideas for new game modes, VS rulesets, or similar, those are also welcome.

Approximately every two months, we'll select one or more entries to actually implement into the game, with art and sound effects as needed, and with your name (or forum handle if you prefer to remain anonymous) featured in the release notes as well as the game credits. Best of all, this is a contest where everybody wins, because all existing Tidalis customers always get these sorts of "free DLC" updates... for free.

Not much of one for gameplay design? That's okay -- if you're into level or brainteaser creation, you might prefer to simply submit your custom levels for potential inclusion in the free DLC. Twelve player levels have already become a part of the official release versions of Tidalis, and yours could be next. Here again, we give full credit based on your name or forum handle (your preference).

A lot of games have community mods or levels, but what we're offering is a chance to affect the actual core official game, not just an obscure addon. At Arcen, we really believe that players are full of good ideas, and we've seen the frustration that many people have with their inability to see anything come of those ideas with the larger companies. With AI War we were so inundated with suggestions that we had to institute the Community DLC poll, and now with Tidalis we're going to handle it a bit differently with this bimonthly Design A Block contest.
