Dragon Age: Return To Ostagar Now Available, 1.03 Update
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 9 comments

Bioware announced a few days ago that the Mac version of Dragon Age would soon be updated to version 1.03 and Mac users would also soon be able to access the downloadable content available to users on other platforms. Both the patch and the first of the DLC content, Return to Ostagar, should now be available. Dragon Age is powered by Transgaming's Cider Portability Engine.

Hello Mac Dragon Age fans,

Thanks to our partners at TransGaming, we are nearing the time when the remaining DLC will become available for the first time on the Mac version of Dragon Age: Origins! Starting soon, you'll be able to go beyond the origin and explore more of the Dragon Age experience!

On July 20, we will release the Return to Ostagar DLC and patch 1.03. We are also working with TransGaming on delivering the complete range of DLC releases shortly afterward, and will keep you posted on release dates for each of these.

Thank you for playing Dragon Age: Origins and we hope you enjoy your continued adventures in the upcoming DLC!

About Return to Ostagar:
Your memories of the battle of Ostagar will haunt you for years to come. It laid waste to your order and claimed the lives of many great men and women, including the brash young King Cailan and your mentor, Duncan.

Now, there are rumors that a fellow survivor of the battle has escaped from captivity and is seeking the Grey Wardens' help. The time has come for the Grey Wardens to make their return to Ostagar and exact their revenge upon the darkspawn.

King Cailan Theirin inherited a Ferelden at peace, and it frustrated him immensely. His father, beloved King Maric, had become a legend in his own lifetime, defeating the Orlesians to gain independence for the nation. To Cailan, that was the proper role of a king–rallying people against a common enemy. But he also believed his father's success had deprived him of the opportunity for greatness–Cailan's Ferelden was cursed by stability.

And so it was that young King Cailan, hungry for glory and eager to emulate the ancient legends, committed the armies of Ferelden to face the darkspawn at the earliest sign of the Blight. He took counsel from Grey Wardens, and bolstered his forces with foreign troops, even inviting soldiers from hated Orlais. This angered many who had served under Maric, but Cailan had no interest in their quaint national prejudices; the darkspawn and their archdemon master–these were threats worthy of a soon-to-be legendary king.

Whatever the reasons, Cailan and the Grey Wardens stood for Ferelden against the darkspawn. It should have been a decisive victory, but they were abandoned to face the horde alone.

Return to fallen Ostagar, discover the fate of a king, and reveal the true cost of betrayal.

Return to Ostagar requires Dragon Age and is available for $5. Check out the links below for more information.

Darkspore Announced
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

EA and Maxis have announced the company's next project, Darkspore. The online science-fiction action role playing game offers Diablo inspired action and an upgraded version of the creature design tools in Spore. The game will feature a single player campaign, four player cooperative play, and multiplayer battles.

“Darkspore is inspired in part by the award-winning creature editor tech of Spore, but also in large part from the team’s own passion for gaming and prior experience,” said Lucy Bradshaw, General Manager of Maxis Studio. "The team has combined these inspirations to produce a unique take on the action RPG genre.”

Darkspore will feature dynamic, fast-paced action as players battle across alien worlds to save the galaxy from the mutated forces of Darkspore in a four-player co-operative and full single-player campaign, as well as intense multiplayer battles. In order to defeat the malicious Darkspore, players will need to collect an arsenal of living weapons - genetic heroes with different combat abilities - and upgrade them with tens of thousands of collectible body parts and armor.

Darkspore will feature three unique classes of five different genetic hero types, with a limitless number of upgrades and customizations available through the parts players collect on each planet level. As players progress, Darkspore builds in intensity, with new planets and enemy forces requiring players to strategically select the right squad and ability combinations to succeed in their missions.

Darkspore:
For eons the Crogenitors traversed the galaxy, genetically transforming and sculpting living matter to their will. In their unchecked arrogance they created something they could not control - the Darkspore. Now the galaxy is under siege.
Using the powers of E-DNA, the Darkspore has transformed planetary populations into mutated hordes. Its sole purpose...to dominate life on all planets.
You are a fugitive, hidden for a millennium. Your mission...to reconstruct an arsenal of genetic heroes. And lead the battle against the Darkspore.
The time to strike back is now!

Features:

  • Join the universe of Darkspore, a fast-paced, sci-fi Action-RPG in which you battle across alien worlds to save the galaxy from the mutated forces of Darkspore.
  • Fight in co-op and solo battles against hordes of Darkspore enemies and bosses.
  • Collect an arsenal of living weapons - genetic heroes with different combat abilities - and upgrade them with tens of thousands of collectible body parts and armor.
  • Make your heroes truly unique and deeply customized in an enhanced version of the award-winning Spore Creature Editor.
  • Pit your customized, upgraded collection of heroes in PvP arena battles against other players.
  • Destroy the infestation of Darkspore and liberate the galaxy in a unique and highly replayable sci-fi action campaign.
Darkspore is currently in development and scheduled for a February 2011 launch. Macworld is reporting that a Mac version of the game will also be released in 2011.
