Steam For Mac Cancelled, Newell Still Hates Macs
9:27 AM | IMG News | 13 comments

Valve Software today announced it has cancelled Steam for the Mac, the company's digital download software program. The company also announced it will be canceling all of its upcoming Mac titles including Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, among others.

"After careful consideration, my personal hate for Macs was just too much to ignore, said Gabe Newell, Founder and President of Valve Software. "Ever since we announced Steam for the Mac, I've had this awful bloated feeling in my stomach..it was either that chili-cheese hot dog I ate the other day or just the fact that all those pompous Mac users will be getting our beloved Steam made my stomach really upset. Whatever the case, Macs still suck....period."

John Cook, Director of Steam Development, expressed his disappointment to Inside Mac Games. "It's too bad Gabe changed his mind...damn those chili-cheese dogs!".

Valve's Director of Marketing, Doug Lombardi, also shared his thoughts, "I'm not surprised...we canceled the port of Half-Life 2 a few years ago so this should really come as no surprise to Mac users. It's too bad...we really wanted to bleed as much cash out of Mac users as possible. Oh well."

Inside Mac Games will be contacting Mac developers to get their reaction on the cancellation of Steam for the Mac. Stay tuned to this developing news story.

Magnetic Revisited Released For Macs
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Mulawa Dreaming has announced the release of Magnetic Revisited for Macs. Peter Hewitt's redesigned and updated version of his year 2000 Windows only release, Magnetic, is a puzzle title which includes 16 individual games with unique challenges.

The title refers to a tropical island in the Australian Great Barrier Reef. Here Peter has created a Training Camp for Game Wizards. Players face 16 puzzles and 16 games (many original) scattered about the island.

It's tempting to follow the usual path and present you with a lot of hype both in pictures and text to persuade you to play Magnetic Revisited.

But maybe you're like me and have been taken down that path too often in recent times and now have a stack of barely started disappointing games on your shelves.

So here's the plan:
I'm just going to give you the demo links so you can decide for yourself whether the "Game of Games" is for you or not. (No! "Game of Games" is not hype - Magnetic Revisited includes 16 separate games in its structure.)

On the other hand, Shona pointed out that some of you may not wish to dilute the experience by playing the demo first. If that's the case ... go ahead and purchase the immediate download now and I'll back your great choice with an unconditional 60 day money back guarantee!
Magnetic requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 and costs $17. A free demo is available for download at the website below.

Warhammer Online: Armor Tinting, Dual Wield, Mini Map Update
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Mythic Entertainment has posted a new producer's letter addressing upcoming changes and additions to the company's MMO, Warhammer Online. Among other topics the post covered minimap changes, improved armor tinting, and the addition of dual wielding for Marauders. The game features Realm vs Realm combat and allows players to enter a grim fantasy world where the armies of Order and Destruction collide to determine the fate of nations.

Speaking of 1.3.5, now is a great time to share a couple more tidbits about features going into this version. For ease of navigation, we have added “gutters” to the minimap. In these gutters, you will be able to see the direction of off-the-screen objectives without having to pull up your full map.

Another 1.3.5 feature is a massive improvement to our armor tint system. Instead of describing it myself, I’d like to call in an expert, Lead Character Artist, Na te LaMartina:

“We have changed the process by which armors are dyed. As a result, this improves how armor appears once it’s tinted, and also improves its overall fidelity. Fidelity refers to the accuracy of the texture map after a tint has been applied. Compression artifacting (all that muddy-looking stuff) is significantly decreased, and borders between colors now remain sharp and clear.

One final cookie for now comes in the form of a Combat & Careers change: Marauders are getting true dual wield in 1.3.5!
