6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

ActionSoft Games, known for its action/exploration game Midnight Mansion, is close to releasing its next title, Insectoid, and is asking for dedicated beta testers to help complete the final phase of testing. Inspired by space shooters of the past the action arcade game includes over 50 levels, four unique ships, a variety of enemies, and three difficulty modes.

I am looking for about 50 dedicated beta testers for my nearly-finished game Insectoid.

It's a space shooter inspired by Galaga, but with a character of its own. Looking for players committed to testing levels faithfully and giving feedback.

Anyone interested can contact me at vern AT actionsoft DOT com

with the subject "Insectoid Beta Testing" and list their age and type of computer (including processor speed).
More information about the game:
Featuring fast-paced, adrenaline-inducing gameplay, over 50 unique levels, four custom ships, stunning high-res graphics that look great even on a 30" display, and a professional musical score, Insectoid is a retro shooter fan's dream come true.

Collect power-ups and use special weapons, including split ship, laser beam, fireball, and a shield, as you fight back swarms of angry insects. Advance behind enemy lines and try to catch the enemy off-guard as you aide human forces in galactic war.

If you enjoyed games like Galaga back in the 80's, you're sure to love Insectoid. Insectoid is not available for download/purchase yet, but join our mailing list and you'll be informed when the game is available

DeathSpank Game Footage Will Be On Display At PAX 2009
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 2 comments

In a recent blog post veteran game designer Ron Gilbert revealed that gameplay footage for Hothead Games' upcoming DeathSpank RPG adventure game will be on display at this years Penny Arcade Expo. DeathSpank is described as "Monkey Island meets Diablo" and will feature Gilbert's signature humor and storytelling.

Philosophers around the world pretty much agree that PAX is about the most damn exciting show around. Much of the debate currently going on in the marbled halls and ivory towers of the intellectual elite is if me giving this years PAX keynote makes it more exciting or if I'll get up on stage and freeze from stage fright and you'll all stare at me for 45 minutes wondering if this is some some avant-garde performance piece.

Of course, confusing the toga wearing philosophers even more is that Hothead will be showing DeathSpank at PAX. And when I say "showing", I really mean "showing", like in "actual" "game play".

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that legendary heavy metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne will headline the closing concert at this year’s BlizzCon event, which will take place August 21-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center. While tickets to the convention sold out in minutes, a live Pay Per View event will be available on DIRECTV and via Internet stream.

“Our goal with BlizzCon is to deliver an unforgettable weekend of entertainment, and we can’t think of a better way to close out this year’s show than having Ozzy rock the house,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “Many of us at Blizzard are lifelong fans of Ozzy’s music, and we’re thrilled that he’ll be performing for all of our BlizzCon attendees as well as those joining us via DIRECTV and the live Internet stream.”

One of the most influential rock musicians of all time, Ozzy Osbourne rose to prominence as the lead vocalist for Black Sabbath before embarking on a multi-platinum solo career. He is also known for putting on the Ozzfest music festival and for starring in his own reality TV show. Ozzy Osbourne’s career has spanned four decades and his music is as relevant today as ever. The Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has sold over 100 million albums worldwide-50 with Black Sabbath and as many as a solo artist-and in 2003 was honored with a star on Hollywood Boulevard’s “Walk of Fame.” This is his second collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment, following a recent TV spot for World of Warcraft®.

The largest event of its kind, BlizzCon is a celebration of Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft®, Diablo®, and StarCraft® game universes and the global player communities surrounding them. At the closing ceremony on August 22, Ozzy will unleash a thunderous spectacle of rock to put the Lich King in his place and cement his own title as the one true Prince of Darkness.

In addition to serving as a gathering place for the different Blizzard Entertainment gaming communities, BlizzCon will offer an array of activities, including discussion panels, hands-on playtime with upcoming games, contests, tournaments showcasing the skills of top eSports gamers from around the world, and more.
