City Of Heroes Developers Discuss Power Customization
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
Ten Ton Hammer recently posted a new interview with NCSoft's Matt Miller and Joe Morrissey about their future plans for the comic book themed MMO, City of Heroes. The discussion covered a variety of topics related to the game including power customization in the Issue 16: Power Spectrum update and plans for the Going Rogue expansion.
Ten Ton Hammer: What can you tell our readers about Issue 16: Power Spectrum?Read the full Q&A at the page linked below.
Ten Ton Hammer: City Of Heroes Dev Q&A
Matt Miller: Y'know, we took a look at everything - and it was all great - but the original way we did the editor didn't quite work with customizing powers, going back to the custom, switching to different parts, etc. We needed a less linear way to do it, so we built this functionality at the top of the editor where you can jump around to any place in the customization process.
Customizing the powers is pretty simple. You can select from two different primary colors, and on top of that you can select a variety of different options for the theme of power you want to see. For each power you can choose from three different styles to choose from: the default, bright, and dark. The way the powers are set up is through additive or subtractive color palletes. So if you select bright, all of your color options are going to be bright and if you select dark, they'll all be dark.
At level one, you'll be able to see every single power in your particular power set and can customize those powers at level one during character creation. This way you get a bit of a preview of what your higher end powers are going to look like. For example, you might get Power Push at level 25, and think, "Wow...that doesn't look very good." So once you get to that level you could either not take the power or you could pick a different power set to play with. Now you can do that without having to level up to 25 and finding out that you don't really like the latest power.
Ten Ton Hammer: What about animations?
Matt: That's something else that we did in this Issue... we've customized the animations for certain power sets, most specifically martial arts. The players that used martial arts felt that most of the power set just involved kicking and there wasn't enough punching. So now we've changed it so that the different powers in the set can use a secondary animation instead of their primary version.

EVE³: The EVE Online Fanfest 2009 PvP Tournament Announced

CCP Games has announced EVE³ a PvP tournament for The EVE Online Fanfest 2009. The tournament will consist of a series of battles between two teams, with each team piloting three Strategic Cruisers in a 3v3 Tech 3 contest. The event will be held in Iceland at CCP Games' EVE Fanfest PvP room. Winners will receive prizes from the EVE Online store. Those interested in one of the 64 available team slots can either sign up at the Fanfest or go to the tournament website to pre-register and guarantee a slot.
It is with much yarr in my heart that I bring tidings of yet another excellent EVE Online tournament. Another chance to blow your friends and enemies to smithereens. Another chance to test your leet spaceship skillz. Another chance to fight for glory under the exacting gaze of your esteemed peers.Check out the pages below to learn more about Fanfest 2009.
EVE Fanfest 2009 PvP Tournament Page
The tournament will take place in the fabulous and famous EVE Fanfest PvP room, this year new and improved (I didn’t think it was possible either, but CCP Tyr is pretty epic) with even more awesome sound and lighting. Battle your foes in an awesome atmosphere while the CCP dev team looks on, or take a seat in the battle gallery and watch the fights on the screens!
EVE³: The EVE Online Fanfest 2009 tournament will consist of a series of fights between two teams, with each team piloting three Strategic Cruisers to victory or death in some explosive EVE PvP action. Yep, that's 3v3 Tech 3.
Strategic Cruisers are the most flexible-role EVE Online ships to date, and as such this tournament really requires players to think seriously when making their setup decisions. Should you fit for all out annihilation and take the fight to the enemy? Will you field enhanced electronic warfare ability? Will speed be your ally? Or will you choose to roll up to the arena like a mobile brick of armour? All of these decisions must be carefully weighed to ensure success!
The top four teams in the tournament will fight for ultimate victory on the main auditorium stage in front of the entire population of Fanfest as well as those sitting at home across the internet. The glorious victory of the winners will be immortalised in our memories. And there are prizes too.....including awesome goodies from the EVE Online store and more!
There will be 64 team slots available for the Fanfest tournament; signups will be taken at the Fanfest. However, if you wish to pre-register and guarantee your team a slot, head on over to the signup page and sign your team up now! Whilst only three players may compete in a match, your team is free to switch members between games. Full rules for the tournament will be announced closer to the event.
That’s it from me y’all! I look forward to seeing you all at Fanfest, and in particular seeing you at the tournament – and of course, the Party at the Top of the World, during which we will celebrate PvP victories, commiserate PvP losers, and undoubtedly debate the nature of existence beer.

IMG Reviews Luxor 3
6:00 AM | Marcus Albers | Comment on this story
Inside Mac Games has posted a review of the latest sequel to the popular Luxor series of games, Luxor 3, from MumboJumbo. It's more colored ball-matching action as you make your way through the Egyptian-themed game. Here's an excerpt from the review:
However, this basic form of Luxor is now called Classic mode and is now only one of six types of gameplay you can encounter in any given level. In addition to Classic, you will now also be able to play in Survival, Onslaught, Crossing the Nile, Puzzle, and Treasure Hunter modes. As in previous versions of the game, there are also Adventure and Free Play modes. The Adventure mode takes you through a series of 25 maps in an Egyptian-themed storyline that centers around the lives of ancient deities. The Free Play mode allows you to replay any of the 25 maps for practice and challenge. New to Luxor 3 is Puzzle mode, where you can replay any of the puzzles you already solved in Adventure mode.Follow the link below to read the full review.
