WoW: More Druid Form Artwork
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has posted a collection of new artwork for its popular MMO, World of Warcraft. The art reflects the upcoming new druid forms, depicting five new textures for the tauren and night elf animal forms. The images depict both the new and old variations of the bear and cat forms.

In our next major content patch, druids will find a host of new textures for two major forms, cat and bear. There will be five different designs for each of these forms for the Horde and Alliance. Night elves can choose to change their cat and bear look at any time by visiting the barber shop and changing their character's hair color, while tauren will be able to change which look they use by switching skin tones in the barber shop -- a new feature for tauren in the next major content patch. Given that there are more hair colors and skin tones than unique form looks, some colors and tones will overlap with these new textures. The hair and skin colors chosen will, in most cases, correspond with the color seen in the look of each form. Some similar colors that may share a particular cat texture will not necessarily share the same bear texture.

We'd like to share with you this new art for each form and faction in four installments. So without further ado, our first preview is for the five new textures of the tauren druid bear form. We'll also show the current form design so you can easily see the extra detail and textures of the new art. Work continues on new looks for the remaining druid forms and we hope to add them in future content patches.

IMG Reviews Rayman Raving Rabbids
8:56 AM | Marcus Albers | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a review of Ubisoft's minigame mashup Rayman Raving Rabbids, brought to us by Transgaming Technology and GameTree Online. Help Rayman escape from the rabbids by performing different minigames and winning plungers. Here's and excerpt from the review:

[...]the game consists of a number of minigames that must be completed in order to earn plungers and, in turn, your freedom. The games fall into one of a few categories, such as the bunny hunt games, sports games, challenges, and "shake your booty" games. The bunny hunt games show up during the boss stages. This is a rails shooter where you have to take out as many bunnies as you can with your plunger-gun. If the rabbids get too close, you can always throw out your chain the fend them off. The joy of the bunny hunt stages is the different styles of backgrounds that are employed, from a movie set to and old west town. The scenery also changes how the rabbids are dressed and how they react and attack you.

EVE Online: Economic Newsletter Available
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

CCP Games recently released its Quarterly Economic Newsletter for the first quarter of 2009 in its popular MMO, EVE Online. The newsletter offers an in-depth report of the current state of the game's complex economy, giving both novice and veteran players a wealth of statistics and information.

In this version we have interesting information on demographics as well as a sneek preview of some statistics for wormholes and tech III. Of course the standard information on price changes is also there in addition to the market snapshots, showing an interesting development in several items on the EVE market.

The year 2009 is a good year - as strange as it may sound in the midst of global financial crisis and general downturn in the world economy. However, there is another world that is thriving despite the current economic turmoil. That world is EVE Online. Q1 of 2009 has been one of the best quarters for EVE Online since the beginning in May 2003. Six years later, EVE is still growing strong. During the Q1 of 2009, subscriptions in EVE saw strong growth ahead of the next expansion – Apocrypha. This new expansion promised to be the best expansion ever added to EVE, and it delivered this promise.

After the highly successful launch of this new expansion, EVE continued growing even faster than before, powering EVE’s vibrant and thriving economy. As this report was written, EVE broke the 300.000 subscriber milestone.

The Sims 3 Reviewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Gameplanet has posted a new review of the recently released The Sims 3. The game adds customizable personalities, goal oriented gameplay, movie creation and editing, and an online community to the familiar lifesim formula. Gameplanet gave The Sims 3 a score of 9. out of 10.

From the review:

Needs such as Bladder, Energy, Hunger dominate the majority of your day, however these are far easier to manage than in past iterations. This leaves you much more time to go out and have fun, and maybe even do some gardening if your Sim is keen. It's certainly great to be growing your own vegetables for the fridge or for the market.

A big ease-of-use improvement has been made to the careers. Now when your Sims go to work you have a number of options such as slacking off, sucking up to the boss or hanging with your co-workers. The nice part about this is that your Sims co-workers will become your friends, allowing you to increase your Sims friends base without having to constantly seek out people to communicate with. This was the bain of my previous The Sims experience. Having to have ten friends simply to rank up in my Sims career would result in endless headaches, and generally once I befriended the tenth person the others no longer liked my Sim. It made it a tedious process, and yet now it's just so easy. The career track itself too is much easier, and simply getting close to the boss can be enough to get a promotion, even if your skills aren’t quite up to scratch in the field.

Once things are running smoothly for your Sim and they have enough money coming in from their jobs to pay the bills and upgrade some of your things (such as getting the new flat-screen telly) then you can think about getting married and having kids, and even same sex relationships aren’t a problem for our Sims. This process happens much as you would expect, with the life phases allowing you to have a baby which grows through several stages. These stages can get set to any length in the options, in case you don’t want your original Sim dying quite so quickly, or if it's all going too slowly for you. But you will have manage the rigours of teenage years, as well as the difficulties surrounding old age and losing loved ones. In that sense, the Sims hits on a slightly disturbing note.
