Europa Universalis Rome: Vae Victis Released
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Virtual Programming has announced the release of Europa Universalis Rome: Vae Victis, an expansion for the historical strategy title. Vae Victus improves upon the base game with expanded options in government, new missions, new decisions, new laws, and a completely revised military AI.

Set during the golden age of the Roman Republic when the Senate ruled the Empire, Vae Victis features a massive number of additions and improvements to Europa Universalis: Rome, a game that was already one of the most prominent to depict that era in the widest scope.

An overview of these key changes begins with government, which has received a lot of attention for the expansion in order to produce more fluid and balanced gameplay. The cast of historical characters of the ancient world have also had a significant overhaul across a variety of areas and with the addition of missions, decisions and laws, Vae Victis is an expansion packed with a huge amount of new content.

Features:
• The dynamics of the characters that live in the Republic will come to life as the men and women have their own personal goals and agendas, which are often in conflict with each other. Will you be able to manage these wilful personalities?
• As a Republic you will now need to take the Senate into the account. Characters will belong to various parties depending on their goals, values and ambition. The Senate will pass laws, which will allow or disallow certain country actions.
• Making sure that the party in power backs your own goals, adds another strategic element to game play. Monarchies and Tribes will have their own courts, beware of bootlickers and sycophants who will stop at nothing to replace your divinely appointed ruler with themselves.
• "Carthago Delenda Est". Senators will cry out and charge players to perform their duties. Now the Senate or a religious power can give players missions to fulfil, guiding the player through ambitions to experience a rich and rewarding history.
• Mobilize the Senate to back important laws such as 'Lex Gabinia' to fight piracy or the 'Lex Acilia Repetundarum' to reduce corruption. Players can also enact decisions at various levels, working with regional governors to grant citizenships to a region or a province.
• Completely revised military AI, particularly in the area of military campaigns. Will benefit experienced players in particular.
• An overhauled interface making the information more easily accessible for both new and advanced players

Requirements:
• Europa Universalis Rome
• OS X 10.3.9 or higher
• Intel or PPC G5
• GeForce 5200, Radeon 9600 (not GMA950)
• 64 MB VRAM, 512 MB RAM
• 700 MB hard disk space

Vae Victis requires Europa Universalis: Rome to play and costs $14.95 (£9.95, €14.95). For more information about the game click over to the link below.

Magik Riktus Bandit Clan Invades DOFUS
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Ankama Games has announced the addition of the Magik Riktus Clan to its flashed based MMO, DOFUS. The bandits introduce the chance for subscribers to transform their current characters into one of the four bandit incarnations available, giving them 20 unique spells from which to choose and a close combat attack.

The consistent success of DOFUS hasn’t stopped the game’s designers from coming up with new and exciting surprises for the players. On 6 February, players will have the chance to discover a whole new gaming experience when the Magik Riktus Bandits arrive. The clan is new to the World of Twelve, and they’re here to make their fortune, each one armed with a weapon that allows them to use their clan’s unique spells.

Four types of incarnation exist, one for each order of the clan:
• The Swashbuckling Bandits, experts in close combat. Their weapon of choice? The sword, of course!
• The Archer bandits, masters of long-range combat.
• The Wandering Bandits, who use their spells to protect their friends, and their staff to injure their foes.
• The Sorcerer Bandits, these magi can change the condition of others.

Each bandit’s weapon deals air, earth, fire and water type damage, and once the player has transformed into a bandit, they’ll have 20 unique spells at their disposal. They will also gain a close combat attack, but will lose their original spells for as long as they remain transformed.

Bandits can evolve up to level 50 by gaining experience. All XP won as a bandit will contribute to bandit XP only and every 10 levels, the bandits’ spells evolve by one level. At level 50, all spells are at level 6, which is the maximum level.

How do players become bandits? Each subscription (from one to 12 months) comes with a gift, a weapon which transforms players into bandits when equipped, whatever their original class. The only condition is that the player must be at least level 30.

Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 Coming To Mac In March
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Transgaming has announced it is now taking pre-orders for Command & Conquer Red Alert 3. The popular real time strategy title follows the action as the Allies face off against the Soviet war machine and the Empire of the Rising Sun in a fictional futuristic setting. Red Alert 3 features missions designed for cooperative play, a focus on naval warfare, and over 60 minutes of live action cutscene footage.

After years of conflict, the Allies are finally on the brink of victory. Cowering behind the walls of the Kremlin, the Soviets decide to turn to one last act of desperation - the use of an experimental time travel device. The mission: to go back in time to eliminate Albert Einstein before he creates the technologies that will lead the Allies to ultimate victory. After a successful mission, the Soviets return to the present, discovering the Allied position has weakened. But before they can truly celebrate, they find out their actions have spawned a new threat and global superpower, the mysterious, technologically advanced, Empire of the Rising Sun. Welcome to World War III.

In Red Alert 3, all three factions will have their own hand-crafted story-driven campaigns, with co-operative missions designed solely around coordinating attacks and developing strategies with an ally. Hook up with a friend online to go through the entire experience or choose from a group of AI commanders, each with their own distinct playstyle and personality.

While most RTS games keep naval gameplay at the periphery, Red Alert 3 is not shying away from the high seas. The oceans now hold essential resources, and with many units and structures capable of becoming amphibious, players who turn their backs to the oceans will find conquering the world a daunting task.

Features:
• Red Alert 3 brings back everything fans love about the series, the humor, the popcorn style story and the franchise's fast, action-oriented gameplay, while breaking new ground for the genre, with an entirely co-operative, story-driven campaign campaign mode and an increased emphasis on naval gameplay.
• Co-Op Done Right - Every mission is designed from the ground-up with co-operative gameplay in mind. Join forces and strategize with friends online or join forces with nine AI commanders, three for each faction, all of whom have their own unique personality and style of play that might come in handy depending on the situation.
• Command the Seas, Conquer the World - Experience Gameplay as for the first time in the series, waging war on the water will be every bit as important as dominating by land and air. Gain strategic advantages by controlling resources in the seas and mounting three-pronged attacks from all directions.
• A New Threat from the East - The Empire of the Rising Sun is a technological terror, with unit designs influenced by a mixture of science-fiction, martial arts and robot culture. The Empire's futuristic units can transform into alternate forms, and they specialize in naval warfare.
• Star-Studded Storytelling - Command & Conquer's trademark live-action videos return in HD, with over 60 minutes of footage featuring the largest cast in the history of the Command & Conquer franchise.

System Requirements:
• Mac OS X v10.5.6 Leopard or higher
• CPU: Intel Core Duo Processor
• 1024MB RAM
• Video card: ATI X1600 / NVIDIA 7300 GT
• Hard Drive: 10 GB
• Keyboard and mouse
