IMG Reviews Aquaria
6:52 AM | Marcus Albers | 1 comment

Inside Mac Games has posted a review of the new action-adventure game from Ambrosia, Aquaria. Sporting beautiful 2D graphics, an enormous game world to explore, and an excellent story, Aquaria looks to be a hit with gamers of all ages. Here's an excerpt from the review:

Aquaria's gameplay is very simple, but it has surprising depth. For example, movement is purely 2D, but you can ride currents, grab walls and jump off them for a quick boost, turn into a special form to ignore currents, switch to a small form and swim faster, and create blocks to interrupt the current using a plant form. All of these are used at some point in the game, and most are needed to battle the numerous bosses of Aquaria.

Geneforge 5: Overthrow Updated
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Spiderweb Software recently updated Geneforge 5: Overthrow, the final title in the long running Geneforge RPG series. The update brings the game to version 1.0.1 and "fixes a number of minor issues." In G5:O players are returned to the war-torn world of the Shapers where they can choose a side and tip the balance of power toward victory.

The Shapers have the ability to create life in any form they choose. They can make living tools that obey their commands, plants that can flourish in the harshest wasteland, and powerful monsters to can crush all who oppose them. The Shapers ruled the known lands, and any who tried to rebel or learn their magical secrets were destroyed.

But then their creations rebelled. Working with humans jealous of their masters, they stole the secrets of the Shapers and created their own armies. They created and unleashed new, even more powerful creations and matched the Shapers in savagery. And now, years into the rebellion, the war has settled into a gruesome stalemate. The lands are scorched, and city after city falls.

The two sides are so delicately balanced that one brave warrior can turn the tide. Will you help the rebels overthrow the Shapers? Will you help the Shapers regain their power, tempted by the incredible rewards they offer? You might be able to end this war. Which side will you choose?

FEATURES:
• Enormous world, with over 80 areas to explore.
• Choose among five different factions, each with its own beliefs, cities, and quests. Help the rebels or fight them. Your choices will shape the world.
• Dozens of different endings. Choose for yourself how the saga will finally end.
• Many paths to victory. Slay your enemies or use stealth and diplomacy to outwit them. Become engrossed in the storyline or just go out and wreak havoc.
• Lots of replay value.
• Prior experience with the Geneforge series is completely unnecessary.

Apple Games Features Tiger Woods PGA Tour For iPod
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Apple Games' latest feature examines Tiger Woods PGA Tour for Apple's iPod multimedia devices. In the game players choose from a list of famous golfers, or one of their own creation, and work to build a successful golfing career. Apple's article includes an overview of the game's features and a list of tips and tricks for getting the most out of the game.

From the article:

The weather may take a turn for the worse, and you might find yourself far from the links, but you can indulge in some golf any time on your iPod. Step into the shoes of Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, John Daly, Retief Goosen, or Annika Sorenstam — or a custom golfer of your own creation — and play as many holes as you want on six real-life courses.

Brave the stiff winds and ocean-sized water hazards at Pebble Beach. Enjoy the placid mood at the Arnold Palmer-designed Bay Hill. Dare St. Andrews’ over 100 sand bunkers to stop your shots. Tackle the challenge of Sawgrass’ water-surrounded 17th green. Work on your long and short games at Pinehurst. Appreciate the beautiful majesty of Wentworth.

Decide on a course and choose from three levels of difficulty: amateur, pro, or legend. Play a full 18 holes, the front or back nine, a random selection of three or nine, or your specific favorites on that course.
