Apple Games Features ToCA Race Driver 3

Apple Games has released a new feature article covering the Mac version of ToCA Race Driver 3, the single-player and multiplayer racing game developed by Codemasters. The game features 70 licensed cars, 80 licensed tracks, and more than 35 racing types. Apple's article includes an overview of the game's features as well as a list of career mode disciplines.

Rick also talks to you during races, giving you pointers, letting you know about accidents or dicey track conditions, and warning you about aggressive driving, which can lead to penalties if you start cutting corners or bumping other cars. He’ll be frank, so don’t be surprised if he expresses disappointment in your performance; if you zoom away from the pack, though, you’ll hear the excitement in his voice. (Rally racing features a co-driver who tells you about upcoming turns, as in Colin McRae Rally Mac).

Between races, you can tune many aspects of your car’s performance, such as tires, transmission, suspension, and brakes. Successful drivers study how those changes affect their driving and make any necessary tweaks before races, since the tracks vary from asphalt to dirt roads, with many featuring hairpin turns and uneven surfaces among them. You can also upgrade your vehicle’s components to improve fuel efficiency, decrease tire wear, increase brake strength, and more.

Penny Arcade Adventures Episode Two Available

Hothead Games has announced that Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode Two is now available worldwide simultaneously via the Greenhouse digital distribution platform for the Mac, Windows, and Linux versions.

Players rejoin Gabe and Tycho in a whole new RPG adventure episode, moving ever closer to solving the mystery in the heart of New Arcadia. Both new and returning gamers can jump right into the RPG adventure sequel with a fresh character and new customization options, or carry over their look and stats from Episode One. Frank Pearce Discusses All Things Blizzard

GamesIndustry.biz has published a new interview with Blizzard Entertainment's Senior VP Frank Pearce. The topics cover a range of topics related to Blizzard's current an upcoming franchises including Diablo III, StarCraft II, and World of Warcraft.

Q: Diablo III looks set to be a success given the large fan base the series already has, but how do you intend to draw in new players who have never experienced the original two?
Frank Pearce: It's just one of those things where we have to abide by our philosophy of making a game accessible, 'Easy to learn, hard to master', I know we say that all the time but it's true. If you make the entry level experience accessible and introduce the concepts gradually to the player they learn how to play the game without even knowing that they've learnt it.
I found WoW, which was my first MMO, pretty accessible to someone who has never played an MMO before. We've got guys on the WoW team whose fathers play the game. play it at an expert level and they've never played an MMO or a computer game before. It's just a situation where we'll make sure that we make it accessible to players that are new to that experience.
But I think that the Diablo style of play is actually lends itself very well to that because the interface with the mouse is very straightforward and simple, for the most part, and to get to the more expert level of play you have to add in keyboard short cuts.

Q: In discussions with people from Blizzard I've noticed that the original StarCraft and expansion, Brood War, is close to your hearts maybe even more so than any other games. Why is this?
Frank Pearce: A lot of the veteran leadership of Blizzard Entertainment worked on StarCraft. I was a programmer on StarCraft, Mike [Morhaime] worked code on StarCraft. It was something that not only were we excited to play from a player perspective but we were also emotionally invested in the development. We poured our blood, sweat and tears into that product.
Mike had to take a business trip for the purpose of dealing with some StarCraft: Brood War stuff, he took that business trip on his birthday - that's how important StarCraft was to us at the time. I think it has a lot to do with the emotional investment in the development of the title.

Tribal Trouble 2 Public Beta Released

Oddlabs has announced the release of a public beta version of Tribal Trouble 2, the web based sequel to the original lighted hearted real time strategy game of Vikings versus Islanders. TT 2 will allow gamers to play directly from the website and will feature a sales model designed "to fit pockets of all sizes."
