The Eminence Symphony Orchestra, in association with Blizzard Entertainment, has announced Echoes of War: Music of Blizzard Entertainment, a 2-disc album and DVD package featuring a collection of orchestral themes spanning the Blizzard Entertainment universes.

The Echoes of War package will offer 70 minutes of music, featuring 15 unique arrangements from Blizzard's games. Several pieces of music will come from yet-to-be-released titles including World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, StarCraft II, and Diablo III.

“We are thrilled to be working with the creator of the Warcraft®, StarCraft® and Diablo® franchises to present the atmospheric and emotional themes from these iconic gaming universes for the enjoyment of players and music enthusiasts the world over,” commented Eminence founder and director, Hiroaki Yura.

Created specifically for active listening outside of the gaming experience, Echoes of War promises to breathe new life into the classical music world for a new generation, while highlighting the beauty and importance of music in games.

With over one hundred performers - including a number of international musicians - and even more people behind the scenes, Echoes of War is a fitting tribute to the epic legacy that Blizzard Entertainment has established with its music.

Eminence has been performing music from popular games and anime titles for five years, thrilling audiences around the globe with their passionate performances and unique takes on classic melodies. Eschalon Book II: The Brimstone Spider
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Basilisk Games has released its fourth creature feature, showcasing one frightening denizen of the world of Eschalon: Book II. Each week in October the company has unveiled a new creature, offering both concept artwork and a detailed description. The fourth creature showcased is the Brimstone Spider, a terrifying arachnid which uses flaming webbing to liquify the its prey.

Description:
The Brimstone Spider is a fierce predator that inhabits the desert and volcanic regions in the southern hemisphere of Eschalon. A noted feature of the Brimstone Spider is that since their bite lacks a venomous injection, the instead "flash cook" their prey in a sticky, burning mass of webbing. The quick, intense heat melts down body fat and releases fluids from the organs of their victim, which the spider can then drink.

Variation:
Arachnids are fairly common across Eschalon and come in a wide variety of appearances and abilities. Every spider should be treated with caution as none are considered "safe". The toxicity of spider bites vary from species to species and may produce effects such as poisoning, paralysis or even instant death. Before you engage any spider in combat, ensure your resistance levels (elements, toxins, disease) are as high as possible

Greenhouse Interactive's Nitrogen SDK Unveiled
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Greenhouse Interactive has announced that the Nitrogen Software Development Kit is now available free of charge to independent developers seeking to enhance their games selected for the Greenhouse digital distribution service. Major tools offered in Nitrogen include the social networking functionalities of 'triumphs' and 'standings,' which will allow developers to reward players for their in-game accomplishments and then display them for the rest of the Greenhouse gaming community.

Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode Two, scheduled to launch this Wednesday for Mac, Windows and Linux, will be the first title on the service to implement the new Nitrogen SDK and offer gamers triumphs and standings to enhance their gameplay and Greenhouse community experience.

"We recognize that gamers expect these features in standard retail games, so why not in indie games as well?" said Greenhouse's Vlad Ceraldi. "But, in a crowded gaming world of achievements and trophies, it's inevitable that all of the good words are gone. We've just snatched the last few that make any sense, so 'good luck' to anyone else looking to offer something similar."

"To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time anyone's offered these kinds of in-game reward and integrated community features on the Mac and Linux platforms," added Greenhouse's Robert Khoo. "In fact, triumphs and standings are only the beginning. There's so much more in the works with Nitrogen that we just haven't found the vocabulary for yet. Stay tuned."
Developers interested in Nitrogen should contact Greenhouse business development manager Gregan Dunn.
