Apple Games Features AoE III: The Asian Dynasties
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Apple Games' latest feature article explores The Asian Dynasties, the second expansion for the popular Age of Empires III real time strategy series. Asian Dynasties introduces new playable civilizations, units, campaigns, and game modes. Apple's article includes an overview of the game's features and a fact sheet on the three new playable nations.

No matter which nation you control, you’ll gain access to a new resource, Export, which comes in handy when you build a consulate and align with a European nation. Spend your Export points on units, resources, and other shipments from your European ally. The number of nations available for such alliances increases as your Home City gains levels.

Exploration of the game map also reveals six new minor nations with whom Asian, European or Native American empires can ally: the Sufis, the Shaolin, the Zen, the Udasi, the Bhakti, and the Jesuits. Each one offers unique units, such as the Jesuits’ Conquistador and the Sufis’ war elephant, as well as new technologies, including the Shaolins’ clenched fists and Zen meditation.

In addition, Asian Dynasties features new mercenaries whose services you can employ to give your army a boost. For example, the Indian cavalry unit known as the Jat Lancer can easily hold its own against archers and skirmishers, while the Ronin — Japan’s masterless samurai — excels against various types of cavalry. Train them at your monastery (this expansion pack’s version of the saloon) or ask your Home City to send them.

Bug Bounce Released For iPhone
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

Cocoa Touch Games has released Bug Bounce for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. The arcade family game puts players in the role of a blue bird who must attempt to avoid the enemy bugs that spawn and bounce around the screen. Players control the bird with a fingertip, attempting to keep the beleaguered avian away from the swarming bugs.

More About Bug Bounce:

The gameplay starts out slow but becomes frantic—fast. You control a little blue bird with your fingertip, and move him around the screen so it doesn't touch any of the ever-increasing bugs that appear. The player has three "lives" of 100 points each, and each of the enemy bugs moves at different speeds and will reduce the player's points at a different rate. Players will want to avoid the grey spider ... at all costs.

A player's score in Bug Bounce is determined by how long they stay alive through the seasons. At the end of game a score is saved locally and can also be submitted to the Bug Bounce online server (WiFi or cellular connection required) where your score will be added to the ranks of other players around the world. You can review your own scores, and those of the top 100 players around the world, with the click of a button.

The producer and creative director for Bug Bounce was Cocoa Touch Games founder David Janik-Jones. The game was programmed by the brilliant Jedd Haberstro, with the delightful bug and player icons created by Sam Lamont.

Cocoa Touch Games was founded in 2008, and our goal is to create "fun, simple, joyful" games for the iPhone and iPod touch. The games we create feature simple, addictive and rewarding gameplay, online high scores, delightful sounds and music, beautiful artwork and style, and a great price. Cocoa Touch Games have another five game titles coming soon including: Garden Marbles (our next title, due in August), Cloud Girls, Star Tumble, Flick Car and CocoaBot.
Bug Bounce is available now through the iPhone App Store and iTunes for $2.99.

WoW: Achievement System, Recruit-a-Friend Program Launched
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 2 comments

New information about Blizzard Entertainment's popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft is now available. The first, an article from MTV Multiplayer, explores WoW's planned Achievement system, scheduled to go online with the release of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. The second is Blizzard's announcement of a Recruit-a-Friend program which will give existing players in-game rewards for signing up new players to the game.

WoW Achievements:

Another new feature that comes with the Achievement system is the ability to track numerous gameplay statistics. While players had already been able to track certain PvP stats, Kaplan said they’ve “really blown out the system” and players will be able to see a complete host of stats in different categories (wealth or social, for instance) that are both relevant and irrelevant to gameplay, such as what emotes characters have done, how many rats they’ve killed in the cities, how much damage their character has ever done or which bosses have killed their character the most.

In fact, because such stats have been recorded, a slew of old-world Achievements from the original game and “The Burning Crusade” expansion will be applied retroactively to characters. Kaplan said one of his max-level characters, who he played “pretty actively,” received about 40 Achievements upon start-up for things such as world exploration, professions, dungeons, raids, PvP, reputations with different factions and certain quests. “We retroactively track any quest Achievements or any Achievement for an item which is either on your character or in your bank,” he said. “There are a lot of Achievements based on stuff like honorable kills or reputations. We have all that tracked.”
Recruit-a-Friend:
What is "Recruit-A-Friend"?
Our new friend referral system allows you to recruit some of your friends to join you in World of Warcraft by sending them an invitation email containing a trial activation key. With this key, your friends will be able to set up their own trial accounts.
To start this process log on to the Account Management section and click the Recruit-A-Friend button. This will take you to the actual friend referral page, where you can enter a friend's email address and name one at a time. If you want, you can also enter a message that will be included in the invitation email.

How can I earn the exclusive in-game mount?
For each person you refer who upgrades to a retail version of World of Warcraft and purchases two months of game time, you will be able to give a character on the account you sent the invitation from an exclusive in-game zhevra mount. This unique mount can be claimed through the website, is only available to Recruit-A-Friend participants, and can only be applied to a single character.

What in-game benefits do we get while the accounts we play are linked?
1. Characters on both accounts can summon each other once per hour.
2. While adventuring with your linked friend/family member, you will each gain triple experience.
3. For every two levels the new player earns, the new player can grant one free level-up to a lower-level character played by the veteran player.
