MacBook, MacBook Pro Models Updated
1:59 PM | Eddie Park | 10 comments

Apple's laptop line has once again seen a refresh, with faster processors and a few other interesting features now being made available for consumption. The most notable upgrade comes in the form of Intel Penryn processors now being used in the new MacBook Pros, which now clock in to a maximum of 2.5GHz.

Also receiving a bump in the MBP line is the GPU. The Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT is the new standard and comes in both 256MB and 512MB flavors. In addition, the MBP now features Apple's Multi-Touch Trackpad technology, the pinch/rotate/swipe interface that iPhone users are already familiar with.

The MacBook line has also gotten faster, featuring faster processors and larger hard drive options:

Featuring a gorgeous 13-inch glossy widescreen display, and with prices still starting at just $1,099, the new MacBook lineup comes in three models and includes faster processors and larger hard drives across the line; sleek white 2.1 GHz and 2.4 GHz models with 120GB or 160GB 5400 rpm hard drives and a stunning black 2.4 GHz model with a massive 250GB 5400 rpm hard drive, previously only available as an option. The 2.4 GHz MacBook models ship with 2GB of memory standard, expandable up to 4GB across the line.
Unfortunately, in terms of gaming, the MBs are still using the Intel Graphics Media Accelerators.

All models are available as of today. More information can be found at Apple's site.

Apple Games Features iPod Yahtzee
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Apple Games has posted a new feature article showcasing the recently released Yahtzee, a new title for Apple's iPod device. The game brings the classic dice rolling of Hasbro's family game to the iPod with the addition of unlockable levels, multiple game modes, and mutiplayer action. The article includes a review of the game as well as a history of Yahtzee.

Yahtzee on the iPod offers a twist on the traditional game by introducing a “rainbow rules” option. In this one, you also roll red and blue dice, giving you the ability to create combinations based on color, such as two pairs of the same color or a standard full house where all of the dice are the same color. Since each die you roll randomly comes out white, red, or blue, this is a variant that’s possible only in the digital realm.

You can play classic and rainbow rules solo, against a friend by passing your iPod back and forth, or against the computer, with three levels of difficulty available. A third gameplay variant, “duplicate rules,” is two-player (against a human or the computer) only — it opens each turn by rolling 15 dice and challenging you and your opponent to put together the best combinations possible from just those results.

No matter which gameplay option you choose, competitive Yahtzee matches end after each player has put together all of the possible combinations. The winner is the one with the most points. The game tracks your historical best scores in all three modes, as well as the awards you’ve won, such as racking up 400 points in rainbow rules or rolling ten Yahtzees during your career.
