Inside Mac Games has posted an interview with Battery Acid's Derek Arndt, creator of popular shareware games such as Mountain Tanks and Biofilm. Here's a clip from the interview:
IMG: You develop games for OS X only. Why are you a Mac only developer? To check out the full interview, please follow the link below.
IMG Interview: Battery Acid's Derek Arndt
Derek Arndt: Quite frankly it's because I don't use or own a Windows machine. I'm not opposed to the platform, it's just not the comfortable and natural extension that developing for the Mac is. When I get an Intel Mac I'll probably give porting to Windows a chance, but I'd like to stay here as long as I can get enough support to make that possible.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Reviewed

TTGamer has posted a new review of the PC version of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. The game is an online multi-player, team-based shooter that takes players back in time to the Strogg invasion of Earth, the catalyst for the Quake series. The forces of Earth will face off against the evil Strogg in a violent struggle for survival, giving players the chance to aid either side in the battle for dominion of the planet. TTGamer gave the game a score of 9 out of 10.
From the review:
Of course, gaining 'XP' wouldn't be much of a big deal if it was just a meaningless number, so Splash Damage made sure to build on the original ET's system of granting upgrades to players based on XP, although this time around there definitely seem to be more on offer, or at least more important upgrades on offer. For instance, you can gain more accurate weapons and even a scope, increased running speed, more health, and other class related enhancements such as lower build times and quicker target acquiring times. It was very important if not down right vital that 'XP' mattered in this game and Splash Damage have done a grand job of making this so, as these upgrades truly come through on the battlefield. For example, the second you gain a scope for your Assault Rifle as a GDF Field Ops, you're basically capable of changing the tide of a fight from well behind the front lines. These XP upgrades and your XP number itself doesn't stick with your online account (although there is stat tracking), but it does span across an entire 'campaigns', four of which exist by default, each featuring three unique maps, which by the way are all nicely designed and well stocked with useful buildings and terrain, not to mention plenty of vehicles and air craft to drive or fly around in, such as the 'Titan' tank and 'Anansi' Helicopter for the GDF, or the imposing 'Cyclops' mech-warrior like machine and personal 'Icarus' jet packs for the Strogg.Aspyr Media is currently hard at work on the Mac version of the game. Gears Of War Celebrated In Statuary

Mindzeye Studios has announced it has entered into a licensing agreement with Epic Games to produce a full line of collector cold cast bronze statues based on characters from the Gears of War universe. The initial Gears of War product line will be released in 2008, with additional products becoming available following the introductory launch.
“Gears of War is extremely unique in that it offers stunning visuals, compelling characters, and a storyline that captures the imagination. We instantly realized that the options available to us to produce incredibly dynamic products based on that world were basically limitless,” said Pete Jirles, President and CEO of Mindzeye Studios. “We’re thrilled to partner with Epic Games on this project. With their attention to detail and story-driven approach, Epic is setting a new standard for the video game industry. Focusing on a compelling game narrative, as well as utilizing the impressive Unreal Engine 3 for incredible cinematic visuals, it’s obvious that they’re concerned with producing a quality product, which echoes our own philosophy.” Epic announced earlier this year that a Mac version of Gears of War is currently in the works. Keep an eye on IMG for updates.
“We're really excited by Mindzeye joining forces with us in the Gears of War universe.” said Dr. Michael Capps, President of Epic Games, Inc. “You can tell by looking at their statues that they're artists, and perfectionists -- they spend the time to get it right. We're psyched to see what they can do with Gears characters and monsters, and we hope Gearheads are just as excited.”

Unreal Tournament 3 Preview, Screenshots
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment
Games32 recently posted a short preview of Epic Games' eagerly awaited Unreal Tournament 3 as well as a handful of screenshots. The latest entry in the Unreal Tournament first person shooter series, the game will feature the fast paced multiplayer action fans of the series have come to expect in addition to a campaign mode for fans of single player games.
The single player campaign features you as the last warrior of a clan massacred by the Necris, therefore you start to wipe out the invaders for revenge and humanity safety. Epic Games kept some of the old game modes like Death Match, Team Death Match or Capture the Flag, removed some of the old modes (Double Domination, Bombing Run, Assault) and introduced some new ones like Vehicle Capture the Flag and Warfare, which is a combination between Onslaught and Assault where players have to conquest point-nodes in their way to the enemy power core. You can also pursuit the Campaign online with your friends. To read the rest of the preview click over to the site listed below.

The weapon arsenal is relatively the same as UT 2004 when speaking of Bio Rifle, Shock Rifle, Link Gun, Flak Cannon, Rocket Launcher or the Sniper Rifle. Weapons like: the Enforcer (a pistol with one shot or burst fire rate; you can wield two at the same time), Impact Hammer (which can kill an enemy instant if applied well or can disable vehicles with the alternative function), and the Stinger Minigun (fires normal bullets or high caliber bullets that can pin an enemy to the wall) are new additions to the old arsenal. The Redeemer (that weapon that fires a devastating missile killing everything in the area) is back. Again you can control its missile with pin-point accuracy, but at the same time it can be destroyed by any opponent if he can target it in time (then you’ll hear a voice saying “Denied!”). The second super weapon is the Target Painter, an auto-guided missile that follows the target you “paint” for destruction (only works on vehicles).
