6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 5 comments

Entertainment Network today announced that Flyboys Squadron Mac, the World War I combat flight simulator based upon the MGM movie Flyboys, has been released.

The Flyboys Squadron Mac retail package will also include one month of free online massively multiplayer gaming on IENT’s servers with hundreds of other players from around the world. Also included in the retail package are two free bonus award-winning massively multiplayer games, WarBirds and Armored Assault, a $50 value.

"FLYBOYS Squadron Mac is an ideal game for people who enjoy the challenge of flying and the strategy of dogfighting," said retired USAF pilot and CEO of iEntertainment, J.W. 'Wild Bill' Stealey, who has over 4,000 U.S. Air Force military flying hours.

Inspired by the true story of the legendary Lafayette Escadrille, the first American fighter pilots, the Flyboys movie featured some of the world's top acrobatics pilots. The aerial combat flying maneuvers and dogfighting techniques and sequences lauded in the movie, are reenacted in this faithful Mac game.

The single player flight simulation and dogfighting game includes 12 missions with four different skill levels, more than 25 Instant Action missions that are different every time they are played, and the ability for players to fly in any one of 10 different terrains with more than 100 different planes and vehicles.

Wrath of the Lich King: Death Knight Q&A
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft site is featuring a new Q&A with designers of the upcoming second expansion for WoW, Wrath of the Lich King. The answers provided focus on specifics of the new Death Knight hero class and how it will fit into the current mix of character classes.

While death knights are new to World of Warcraft, they are already a pretty well-established part of the Warcraft universe. Can players expect to see the return of some classic death knight spells and abilities?

Absolutely. One thing that is very exciting about the death knight character class is that we have a ton of really cool material to work with. Just looking at the many manifestations of death knights in previous games and in Warcraft lore provides a lot of ideas for spells and abilities that will give players a feeling of familiarity with what the class is about. At the same time, the way we introduce this class gives us an opportunity to add some awesome new stuff to the “modern” death knight’s bag of tricks.

What we want to accomplish with the new class is to make players who are familiar with Warcraft lore feel right at home with the death knight, while at the same time creating a truly unique, interesting, and fun set of completely new spells and abilities. For example, the death knight’s spells and abilities will be fueled by a new type of resource mechanic – the rune system – which will be different from mana, energy, and rage. This rune system is highly original and unlike any other class in World of Warcraft, but at the same time it is very consistent with the lore and core abilities of earlier incarnations of the death knight in previous games. It’s still a bit too early to talk in detail about it, but hopefully we’ll be able to reveal more about the rune system in the not-so-distant future.
