Quake Zero Unveiled
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 20 comments
As reported on Eurogamer and Kotaku, id Software's QuakeCon keynote speech included the revelation of Quake Zero, a web-based variation of Quake III Arena. The experimental project will be supported by advertising and, when complete, should be available to a wide variety of computer users.
QZ will be a free web-based version of Quake 3 multiplayer. Todd Hollenshead told me they decided to kick off this project for several reasons. First and foremost, id hated to see their game, once quite popular for online matches, losing its prominence in the online gaming scene, this will allow virtually anyone with a computer to play matches of their games.Head over to the sites below to learn more.
Eurogamer: id Unveils Quake Zero
Hollenshead said id also wanted to dip their toe in in-game advertising, and that this seemed like the best way to approach it. So expect ads to be running on the web page when you play Quake Zero, but free games for ads seem absolutely fine to me.

Inside Mac Games Reviews Dodge That Anvil

Inside Mac Games has posted a review of Rabidlab's 3D platformer, Dodge That Anvil. Here's a clip from the review:
Thankfully, the control scheme is quite easy to handle and you can assign the controls to any keys of your choosing. You can also save and load the game quite easily, and restarting a level takes only a few seconds. If it wasn't for that, the game would be intolerable.Follow the link below to check out the full review.

The Queen Of Blades Discusses StarCraft 2
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
Blizzplanet has posted an interview with Glynnis Talken, the voice actor behind the memorable StarCraft hero/villain, Sarah Kerrigan. Recently hired to again give voice to the character in the sequel, StarCraft II, Talken discusses StarCraft, her work on other games, and her series of romance novels.
How has this popularity affected you and your career?Click over to the site below to read the rest.
Blizzplanet: Glynnis Talken Interview
Glynnis: Being a voiceover actor, whatever popularity I enjoy is largely invisible. I don’t wear my Kerrigan wings on the street, and it’s not exactly like I’m talking on my cell phone and someone goes, “Hey, aren’t you The Rogue?” But when people find out, they’re usually tickled, and I’m delighted to make their acquaintance.
You changed book publisher a couple of years ago, signed with Warner Publishing and changed your name from Glynnis Campbell to Sarah McKerrigan. Why did you choose Sarah McKerrigan as your new pseudonym?
Glynnis: It was kind of an homage to the character and a nod to my gaming fans. Unlike most “romance” novels, my books feature kick-ass warrior wenches, so the name seemed appropriate--McKerrigan (spawn of Kerrigan).

Warcraft Movie To Conquer Theaters In 2009
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
A recent Shacknews article reveals a planned 2009 release date for Legendary Pictures' upcoming film version of Blizzard Entertainment's very successful Warcraft franchise. The story will mainly be told through the eyes of the Alliance forces and will be set approximately one year before the time of World of Warcraft.
Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull described the movie as "big," with a budget of over $100 million. "We're not gonna make some cheesy little.. I don't even know what a good example is," he said. Shouts of "Doom" erupted from the crowd. "I'm not gonna give any examples," Tull said after a laugh. To read the rest of the article head over to the link provided below.
Shacknews: Warcraft Movie Article
"We're shooting for 2009," Tull added, before handing the stage over to Blizzard creative director Chris Metzen, who immediately began to outline the direction of the project.
"Honestly, the story that we're running with at this point, we wanted it to be relevant to the experience of WoW players," Metzen said. "Not necessarily buried in thousands of years of continuity. We wanted it to be, well, recent. The story takes place about a year before WoW begins. You're likely to see a lot of races you've played, the lands you know. The story really is a number of main plot points kind of rolled into a really strong two, two and a half hour tale."
