Apple Games Features The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff

Apple Games has posted a new feature on the recently released Mac version of The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff. The add-on introduces over 60 new items to spice up the atmosphere in the popular Sim game. The feature article examines some of the new items available in Family Fun Stuff.

Your little Sims can also brighten their play with the Vault of Mysteries, a clothes cupboard in the “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” mold. Or they might want to duck into My Impregnable Fortress, a bed that resembles a mighty castle. And perhaps the Dreams Alight globe lamp will spark their imaginations as they drift off to sleep.

Family Fun Stuff includes many more items for children’s bedrooms, including an entire furniture and wall objects set with a nautical theme and Tell-Me-Tall, a self-standing piece that tracks your kids’ heights.

Apple Updates MacBooks

Apple announced updates to their line of MacBook laptops today, citing faster processors, more memory, and larger hard drives for all three of their MacBook offerings.

The three flavors include a white model that can sport either a 2.0 or a 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo, as well as a black version with the 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo processor standard. Each of the three also come with 80, 120, and 160GB hard drives, respectively. Apple is also including 1GB of memory and 802.11n as standard features for each.

Graphically, the MacBooks still use the integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM. This may disappoint gamers hoping for a bump in Apple's consumer line of laptops. The line also still sports a 13.3-inch glossy widescreen display with a resolution of 1280x800, an iSight, and the usual USB, Firewire 400, and Bluetooth.

Listed prices are currently set at $1,099 for the white 2.0 GHz model, $1,299 for the bump to 2.16 GHz, and $1,499 for the black model.

Cave Story Updated To Universal Binary

StudioPixel have updated their adventure game Doukutsu Monogatari, to version 0.0.7. This game is a Japanese freeware side-scrolling platformer game. It has been translated into English by Aeon Genesis Translations and the name of the game translates to "Cave Story".

From their web site:

The developer, Pixel spent five years making this game as fun and as great as it is by adding solid controls, smooth gameplay, a great cast of characters and dialogue, an interesting plot, good music and beautiful old-school 2-D artwork. And on top of all this added multiple endings, several boss battles, tons of items to collect, all kinds of added secret bonuses and special challenges, various and considerably different methods of playing through the game depending on your actions, competition ranking features and an extremely high replay value. For a freeware game it is fairly lengthy too. Cave Story is by far the best freeware game I have ever had the honor of playing through and certainly one of the best games I’ve played.

Virtual Villagers: The Lost Children Reviewed

GamersInfo.net recently posted a new review of the PC version of Virtual Villagers: The Lost Children. The second in the series, Lost Children continues the epic story of the castaways of Isola. GamersInfo recommended the game to fans of both the casual and "sims" genres.

If you have played the first Virtual Villagers, this game play is very similar. Your village starts off with a few villagers of working age, and a few children scampering around the island. You are capable of viewing each villager's likes and dislikes, skills, age, and overall condition. Each villager can be assigned jobs, and be trained in skills, from gathering food, to researching technology, learning about medicine, construction, and making babies! (That is the most fun one.) Dropping villagers on different areas of the island can make them do new things, well, at least ponder how to do new things. Initially villagers can't do too much; unskilled and no research for your village means a lot of the objects around the map simply don't make much sense to them.

As time passes, your villagers will gain in skills, and be able to construct and figure out an object's use with proper research or training. From learning how to climb trees, build new huts, or learn how to harvest crops; your villagers evolve into their own little people, with their own little achievements and wacky personalities. Like Ophelea, the brunette who loves to run anywhere and everywhere... well, one day (foolish me) I call her pretty, and it goes straight to her head. The next thing I know she doesn't want to learn anything, and hates working, so she slacks off all day! Every time I look she is over swimming in that pond! GET BACK TO WORK! So each person has their own little life, it can be amusing, and annoying at the same time to deal with, just like real people (though those are mostly annoying).

Tower Of Destiny: Skills, Deities, And Spells

A recent developer blog reveals some new information about Winter Wolves' upcoming RPG, Tower of Destiny. Drawing upon classic adventures of the past the game will offer dungeons to explore, a first person view point, and the ability choose a team for each foray from a pool of adventurers.

The blog post offers details on the interaction of race, class, and diety choice with spells and skills.

1. All races can be any class. some are more inclined to be casters than fighter, but they will be able to be good fighters anyway

2. There will be 3 main stats: hit points, mana points and fatigue.

3. There will be 2 main classes type: fighters and casters. Plus some hybrid like druids or skirmishers that can do both.

4. The fighting classes will use fatigue to use special attacks that learn automatically as they level up and that unlock based on skills or attributes. Example there can be a special attack called “Swing Strike” that will require slashing skill >20 and dexterity > 10.

5. The casting classes will have the spells based on their deity. Each deity has a set of different spells based on different aspects. So you will have a wizard dwarf that will be specialized in nuking opponents and create magic item for example. Or a human that can cast protective and self-empowering spells.

6. For the casting classes, they’ll have restrictions based on the skills of a specific school of magic. Example, White Magic (the life magic) will include most healing spells from all the deities. Obviously the class healer will have more initial skills and will have a higher skill cap than any other class for White Magic.

Worthplaying recently posted 8 new screenshots from Ratatouille, THQ's upcoming game based on the Disney/Pixar movie of the same name. The platform action game will feature a wide variety of missions, environmental hazards and puzzles, numerous enemies to fight, multiplayer mode, and licensed voice over talent from the movie.

In the game, players will assume the role of Remy, a young rat whose love for great food puts him at odds with the needs of his family. Fans will be able to relive some of the film's most thrilling moments and experience the sights, sounds and most importantly, the smells, of Paris a la Remy across a multitude of gaming systems. Players will instantly recognize the storyline, characters and key locations of Ratatouille, as they engage in a series of unique mini-games, cooking challenges and head-to-head multiplayer.
