A recent post on Ambrosia Software's progress log reveals that DEFCON for Mac has reached final candidate stage, bringing the strategy title one step closer to release. DEFCON is a multiplayer strategy game which sets two players against one another in a game of global thermonuclear war.

Final candidate release is out! Fixes problems with mods, mostly. We've also made a Mac version of Introversion's fantastic user manual, which is now bundled in the app.
DEFCON for Mac will be compatible with both Intel and PowerPC macs and will sell for $25 from Ambrosia's website.

This week, IMG's resident artist, Brad Custer, brings us a desktop picture for X3: Reunion, the upcoming space simulation from Virtual Programming.

Here's what he had to say:

The recent press release that Virtual Programming was bringing X3: Reunion to the Mac has a lot of you excited. I know this by the amount of email I've gotten from all of the aspiring space pirates out there. So this week we travel to a galaxy not so far away. This wallpaper was inspired by the great packaging, which many of you wanted to decorate your desktop with and made possible with the help of Virtual Programming.

Magic: The Gathering Online Finally Coming To Macs?
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 12 comments

An update to the FAQ for Magic: The Gathering Online renews the possibility that the online version of the popular collectible card game might eventually reach the Mac as a native application. With the upcoming release of version 3.0 of MTGO the programming team will "revisit the Mac question."

Currently, the development team is working on version 3 of MTGO, and the architecture is being re-written to work first on Windows PCs.

Justin Ziran, the brand manager for MTGO, mentioned in a column on magicthegathering.com that:

Once we launch (version 3), we'll revisit the Mac question with the team. I know there are a lot of Mac users itching to play Magic Online on their machines. I would very much like to give them a Mac native version in the future. No promises, but we will look at it carefully.
The rest of the FAQ is available at the link below.

6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

DanLab Games' latest newsletter reveals that the upcoming Wacky Mini-Golf is nearing Gold Master. Also, Scruffy Gems, a gem matching puzzle title, has received a Universal Binary update. Finally, version 1.55 of Mahjong Solitarus is available for download.

Wacky Mini-Golf nearing release date !
Our new mini-golf title is nearing Gold Master status.
Please, visit our new developer's blog and check the exclusive preview screenshots and behind-the-scenes entries.

Scruffy Gems 1.61 promoted to Universal Binary:
While attempting to fix a clogged pipe, Scruffy accidently locks himself in his flooding basement. The water level is rising menacingly, and there is only one way to save poor Scruffy from his doom: swap gems from a disorderly grid into tidy rows and columns of the same color. Hurry, Scruffy is counting on you!

Mahjong Solitarus was updated to version 1.55:
If you are a fan of Mahjong games, you've probably ran into this problem before: once you've completed all levels, you run out of fresh layouts to play. We at Danlabgames solved that problem in our best-selling game "Mahjong Solitarus": The game comes with a fully-working layout editor which allows players to share custom layouts over the Internet. The possibilities are virtually endless, and you’ll probably never run out of new levels to play.
