Apple Games Features The Sims 2: Pets
8:16 AM | Cord Kruse | 3 comments
Apple Games' latest feature examines the recently shipped The Sims 2: Pets. The game expansion allows players to build their own pet from a list of options, add a variety of pets to their Sims family, and even send their new pet off to work on a pet career path.
Like their owners, Sim pets come with their own needs and motives, many of which you must help them fulfill. If you don’t, they’ll take care of them on their own, which could result in raiding the garbage for food or going to the bathroom inside the house. Each pet also has a unique personality that affects how it behaves when you interact with it, so it may take more training to get a cat or dog to do what you want, if it’s not very smart or it’s really lazy. Use the Obedience Trainer option on the phone if you’re frustrated with the results. To check out the entire feature, which includes a list of cheat codes for revealing unlockable content, click on the link below.
Apple Games: The Sims 2 Pets
Well-trained pets can embark on careers in security, show business, or service, clawing their way to the top of their fields while bringing home some much-needed Simoleons. As with their masters, pets’ personalities and skills help determine their success. Your pets leave during the day to perform their jobs, but make sure you stay on top of their training when they return, or that high-flying career could come crashing to earth.

11:44 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
As reported by Blue's News, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, the upcoming expansion for the popular MMORPG series, has been tagged with an official release date by the folks at Blizzard. That date, which applies to both North America and Europe, is January 16, 2007, with releases for other countries to follow afterwards.
"While World of Warcraft has continued to grow rapidly along with its player population, The Burning Crusade will represent our single largest addition of new game content and new features to date," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "With this expansion, we’re looking forward to offering the same level of quality that players have experienced in World of Warcraft so far, and we’ll continue balancing and play-testing up until launch to ensure that The Burning Crusade achieves that goal."In addition to the regular release, Blizzard also plans on releasing a Collector's Edition, which will include both CD and DVD versions of the expansion, a coffee table book, a behind-the scenes DVD, and an exclusive in-game pet, among other items.

Civilization IV: Warlords Reviewed
8:16 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
Gamers Info recently released a review of the PC version of Civilization IV: Warlords, the first expansion for the popular empire building game. Warlords adds six unique and interesting scenarios, new nations such as the Zulu and Viking empires, and introduces warlord units to the mix. Gamers Info recommended the expansion to all Civ IV owners.
Now, I saved the best for last. Warlords added a new type of great person in the expansion, the Great General. These are military units that can have several effects, depending on how you use them. They can be assigned as a Military Instructor, which gives a +2 exp bonus to all combat units created in that city. They can also be instructed to create a Military Academy, which gives a +25% speed increase to military unit production in that city. And last but not least, they can be assigned to a stack of military units as a Warlord (hence the name of the expansion). This causes the general to become part of one of the units in the stack, and gives 20 bonus exp points to the stack, spread evenly through the units. This also gives the unit that the general is attached to free upgrades when they become available, and access to some high level combat abilities that are not normally available to combat units. Several times during the course of a game, the birth of a great general has been the turning point for my armies, the experience boost they offer to a unit stack is huge, especially early on in the game. Also, the production rate increase was great, several times I have had cities that could produce higher end units in one or two turns, which again makes a huge difference in the game.Aspyr Media is finishing up Civilization IV: Warlords for the Mac and plans to ship the game this month.
