IMG Feature: Widget Roundup - Scenario Poker
1:56 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

IMG has posted a new feature called Widget Roundup - Scenario Poker, which looks at a cool Dashboard poker widget. Here's a clip from the feature:

Poker. Texas-style Hold'em to be specific. This is what Scenario Software brings to the Dashboard with its free Scenario Poker, and it does a good job of it, too. Probably one of the best Widget games I have played, Scenario Poker is what I feel widgets are for, especially widget games: quick diversion from the "other side" of your desktop that can also double as a full game.

Burning Crusade Previewed
9:03 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Trusted Reviews has posted a new preview of Blizzard Entertainment's The Burning Crusade, the first expansion for the ever popular World of Warcraft. Adding a new level cap, controllable flying mounts, and an entirely new continent to explore, the expansion is poised to be a hit with fans of the game.

Outland is stacked full of new dungeons aimed squarely at the Level 60 and above player. Obviously you’ll have a take a few friends along with you if you want to survive these new dens of iniquity, but you won’t have to round up 39 other players to form a raiding party like before. Blizzard was keen to point out that it has reduced the maximum number of players for Raid dungeons to 24, to facilitate smoother progression. The problem with the 40 player limit, was that guilds recruiting for raids were constantly doing just that, recruiting. With the lower limit, Blizzard is hoping that it won’t take quite so long to get an angry rabble together in order to complete a raid.

There are seven regions within the continent of Outland. As you step out of the Dark Portal you’ll find yourself in Hellfire Peninsular – home of Hellfire Citadel. Hellfire Citadel is the first dungeon of Outland and has three wings with monsters ranging from Level 60 through to 70, along with a fourth Raid wing. The other regions – Netherstorm, Blade’s Edge Mountains, Zangarmarsh, Terokkar Forest, Shadowmoon Valley and Nagrand – also contain dungeons to explore, apart from the latter. It’s also worth noting that you’ll need a flying mount to access some of the Outland territories.

Civilization IV: Warlords Reviewed
9:03 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

A new review of the PC version of Civilization IV: Warlords is available from Gamehelper. The first expansion to the popular world building strategy title introduces new playable nations, new scenarios, and the all new Warlord unit. Gamehelper gave Civ IV: Warlords a score of 8 out of 10.

From the review:

The best thing about expansion packs is the additions to the game you already enjoy. Warlords has tons of new additions that will leave you asking for more. Instead of merely getting scientists and artists as great persons, warlords like Genghis Khan or Winston Churchill are available as Great Generals. Great Generals can be used to strengthen a group of units by attaching them to other units. What would a new Civilizations expansion pack be without new civilizations? Warlords adds six new civilizations to the game: Carthage, Celts, Ottomans, Vikings, and Zulu, each coming complete with its own unique unit.

Warlords also has eight new scenarios, which are especially fun because they don’t all require the player to build a civilization from the ground up. Some merely require you to destroy neighboring civilizations to win the game, which is great for those that want to play a "quick" game of Civ. In the Omens scenario, for example, you take control of the American or English army and race to conquer the early U.S. Scenarios that also include new items that can be found throughout gameplay.

The hardworking folks at Aspyr Media are currently at work on the Mac version of Civilization IV: Warlords.
