Upcoming World of Warcraft Content Details
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

A recent 1UP.com interview gives Blizzard Entertainment's Jeff Kaplan a chance to discuss some of the upcoming changes patch 1.10 will bring to World of Warcraft. The world's most popular MMORPG will gain a redesign and reset of the Priest talent tree, the ability to upgrade certain armor sets, and new weather effects.

1UP: Like Paladins in the last patch, you've now redone the talent tree for Priests. Had too many players spent their points in ways that were detrimental to their effectiveness in the endgame, or were there other, deep-seeded reasons for this decision?

Jeff Kaplan: It's not a matter of spending points in certain ways; we simply felt there was room for improvement in the class. The talent reviews take place to ensure that the talent trees are balanced when faced with today's playstyles and encounters. The face of the game has changed significantly since launch, and these reviews help to update the classes along with this content.

A short description of the upcoming changes and the entire interview can be found at the site listed below.

Sid Meier Q&A
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Next Generation has posted an Edge Magazine interview with legendary game designer Sid Meier. The interview covers his early days, the beginnings of the Civilization games, and the possibility of a fifth game in the popular series.

"There was a war-game called Empire which had the quality of exploring and revealing the world map that I really enjoyed and actually there was a board game called Civilization but that didn't really figure into our game too much as it was limited to ancient times.

"Taking those concepts, the interacting systems we'd experimented with in Railroad Tycoon and the idea of history - of the Roman cities and culture and then taking that all the way up to the present - seemed really fun.

"What triggered it for me was that in Empire there was no technology. You started off with a handful of units and by the end of the game you'd have 200, so it got totally bogged down. I was thinking about how to get around that problem and the answer was to get better units, not more of them. So we needed to do technology, and then why not have the time periods? It almost evolved from trying to solve that one problem."

Civilization III Complete Reviewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Macworld's Game Room has posted a review of the recent Mac release of Civilization III: Complete. CIII:C includes the original game and two expansion packs never before seen on a Mac: Conquests and Play the World. The Game Room gave the turn based strategy compilation four out of five mice.

From the review:

Civilization III also includes two add-ons that never made it the Mac—Conquests and Play the World. The more noteworthy of these is Play the World. It adds a multiplayer component that lets you compete against other Civ III enthusiasts online—something Mac fans have longed for. This is the way Civilization III was intended to be played. Unfortunately, since the multiplayer support is not crossplatform, you’ll only be able to challenge other Mac players.

The Conquests add-on provides nine additional scenarios to play through—campaigns that will test your mettle in a variety of scenarios including ancient Mesopotamia , Roman times, Napoleonic times, and so on. Conquests emphasizes civilization-to-civilization combat. So if you’re a lover, not a fighter, you may not find much to like here.
