IMG Reviews Bejeweled 2 12:47 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
IMG has posted a review of Bejeweled 2, the latest game from MacPlay. Here's a clip from the review: Bejeweled 2 has taken the formula of its predecessor, and instead of fixing what isn't broken adds a couple of exciting gameplay features to the game, both of which really add to the experience. If you are able to line up four gems in a row or column, the gems will disappear and be replaced with a single Power Gem. This glowing gem will sit unobtrusively on the board until it is combined with two or more other gems of its color. Once this happens, the gem does its best TNT impression and takes out the eight gems adjacent to it. If one of those gems is a Power Gem, it will explode as well, taking out more gems. With all of the exploding and new gems coming into play, it is possible to rack up some very impressive chain reactions if you can chain enough Power Gems together. Custer Leads A Crusade 9:06 AM | IMG News | Comment on this story
IMG's Brad Custer has worked up yet another Mac gaming desktop this week. Titled "Crusader," this desktop celebrates the recent release from Virtual Programming Ltd. Since the release of Crusader Kings from Virtual Programming Ltd. in August, there's been a steady flow of emails for a desktop from this game. As always, I enjoy honoring all requests so this week I'm going on a crusade. I decided to base the desktop on the great art that is featured on the packaging. With the help of Paradox Interactive I was able to create this week's wallpaper. As always, those interested in downloading Custer's creations can find them at Custer's Desktops.

DoomChronicles Updates to 2.1 9:05 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
The DoomChronicles team has released a new patch for the DoomChronicles demo. Now at version 2.1, the patch adds four multiplayer maps and a new weapon: the sniper rifle. While the rifle currently uses the machine gun model as a placeholder, it is fully functional. The new maps include Hopeless, a small arena, LostCause, which features caves and sniping locations, Roost, which is based off of a Soldier of Fortune 2 map, and SniperTest, which was originally used to test sniper rifles. Other changes include: - Controls for Alt-Fire and Fire-Mode can now be set in MP GUI
- Zoom can now be set to be momentary or toggle through the MP GUI
- Shotgun Alt-Fire has been limited in MP to 2 shots per clip, to stop spamming and lag
- Shotgun fire in Double-Shot and Full-Auto mode may not be audible in MP if fired by another player.
- Shotgun Pellet load has been changed to help with Lag in MP
- Plasmagun clip size in MP has been increased to 50
- Plasmagun shots may not be heard by other players at times
The full list of changes can be found at the DoomChronicles forum.DoomChronicles is a mod that features squad-based combat using the Doom 3 engine. More info can be found at the official site.

Black & White Platinum Pack Reviewed 9:04 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment
MacNN recently posted a review of Lionhead Studios' Black & White Platinum Pack. Brought to the Mac by Feral Interactive, the Platinum Pack includes both the original B&W and the expansion Creature Isle. The god sim managed to score 4.5 stars from MacNN. The game play feels like a real time strategy with trace amounts of simulation. Like many Peter Molyneux games, Black & White has a different style than any game you’ve played before. You are the hand of God, giving you the power to help the villagers build a farm, or throw them over the mountains to their doom. The controls are unique and easy to master, making the game fun for experts and casual gamers alike. Using either a one or two-button mouse, B&W runs like a dream on the Mac. You should be prepared to spend a lot of time in front of the screen, for this game will engulf you. A game can last over 50 hours of adventure. The fact that Black & White is so huge and customizable, you will be tempted to start a whole new God when it is time to leave your Eden. Playing the game as both good and evil allows you endless possibilities and fun. To read the full review follow the link below.

Deconstructing Lego Star Wars 9:04 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
Applelinks has posted a review of Lego Star Wars, published for the Mac by Aspyr Media. The game allows players to control 30 different Star Wars characters in Lego block form as they make their way through 18 levels spanning the first three movies. Applelinks gave the game a perfect 5 out of 5. From the review: The game features characters from the "Episodes" (yes, including JarJar), all rendered in glorious minifig blockiness. Rendered, and dismembered, too; when killed, they pop apart into their component pieces. But bricky though they may be, they move fluidly, especially during combat where simple hits are transformed into acrobatic martial arts combos. For the entire review check out the Applelinks site below.
